I suspect/hope (delete as appropriate) that Albert is being ironic?
If not.................err, well.

Let's assume he isn't:
I don't think the biggest concern to any of the clubs is the 12 team approach (though I still don't see why 12 is the holy grail and the answer to everything, I though 42 was the favoured number). It's how you get there - both when and £££.

If neither of the 'when' and '£££' are answered, then we're looking at meltdown in many clubs. If there are answers to these two questions perhaps someone could let us know what they are.

Still - keep smiling, RFU have posted record profits according to the official RFU website. Censored

Interesting to hear Richard Hill, on tonights Rugby Club, asking for an additional £2million from existing sponsors or new sponsors so Bristol could compete with the top GP sides,so much for the so called Championship then!

Robin, have a word with Richard. He cannot (well, should not) name names but he knows of one of the sources & might perhaps verify that I'm not totally fabricating things. Why do people here so often seem to imply that, in some way or another, I'm being disingenuous and/or outright lying? Or at the very least make a silly snide remark? I've always trusted Richard and, frankly, he appears to be more or less the only regular here worth trusting!

I'm surprised at you, though. I would have expected better.

Brian Dick must be so grateful to the RFU/PRL/FDR and the rest of us for the present setting. Pantomine or farce, such material in the hands of a top sports writer produces brilliant copy and in his case a very entertaining article. Much of the inference rings so true to me that Im just grateful that life has provided built in resilience and a positive expectation that matters cant get any worse.

Rugby will be the winner in the longer term but meanwhile we have the complex issue of a widening chasm between the TV addicted, football ground tenants of the pro game and you and I.

Rather than start another thread, thought I'd recycle an old one.

According to today's RT, the Premiership are looking to expand to 14 clubs.  Partly due to uncertainty over the future of the Anglo-Welsh (we've been sold a done-deal, haven't we...?) and the resultant loss of income.  Also, some clubs are proposing a drop in the salary cap due to the dreaded credit crunch - which in turn means that sharing the pot between 14 rather than 12 wouldn't have such a disastrous knock-on effect.

So would we then become 14 to mirror the Premiership?  Discuss - but with caution, please!

Also - the new TV deal announced yesterday...  Again, we'd been sold a done-deal - I've not read anything so far about Setanta's commitment to The Championship.

What new TV deal announced yesterday?

I guess expansion to 14 would be good, which would mean same for us I would have thought - so that would mean 1 coming down, 3 going up and only 2 having to drop out of the 'Championship' - if my maths is correct - which it may not be!!

Edit: Ooh, my 250th post.  Good to see I acknowleged the landmark with my customary incisive commentary...

I would say it would be more like none down from premiership and two up and two down from ND1.

How can Prem say increased coverage fantastic news...... Yes Setanta will have more games, but all will be pay for view if they follow the football model and i cant see more folk paying extra for tghis on top of the sky fee they already pay. So i fear it will mean less people watching

Some of us who aren't Sky payers are delighted at the prospect of Setanta which we get 'free' as part of our Virgin package Smile ...... but sadly...... no mention of Championship..... only Premiership.... so maybe you Sky people'll get the Championship.... and us Setanta folk won't..... Unhappy

Not a lot of info but talk of discussion this Wednesday (17/12).  I've always thought the GP should have 14 teams. If they go this way surely they'll move the Championship (ND1) to 14 teams.  This will allow 'normal' promotion/relegation between it and ND1 (ND2)
Some GP sides in favour others not but I'm sure Bristol will be in favour as it could also be a rescue package for them.

From the press release copied on the Quins forum it sounds like an additional 7m per year for the Premiership.

That would fully fund one more Premiership club - or provide £500,000 extra per year for each club in the Championship which would go a long way to making a fully professional second tier a reality.

However I think it will go to the current premiership clubs who will just spend  in on more foreign imports.
