I happen to know that the eloquent announcer at Stourbridge has been approached by Hinkley, where they historically announce Sod all.
Apparently Money bags Dour have offered a retainer and Mrs O to make him stay

Hey YT how is the summer ? I hope you are looking after Mrs O and applying the factor 50 to her over the summer !

This might surprise you but I think the announcers should be paid it is great entertainment and a hard job to do entertain all the crowd over the 80+ minutes !!

However I think the pay should be on the ability of the announcer like players wages ? That would probably mean the announcer at Stour would owe the club money as he is useless, in fact he is that bad it is entertaining !!!!!! At least that way the club could fund more players ? Come on ...... you didn't think the sun had got to me and I was going to be nice did you ????WinkLOLLOLLOLLOL

I would say he will have a fair build up with Army XV games (circa 10-12) , plus any Combined Services games that he could figure in plus his regimental ones ...... value for money  ?? not quite the £20k mark I know but still a fair chunk !

Hopefully not the travel expenses as that contravenes HMRC rules! For a paid player the Club is his place of work so you can’t pay him to travel there.

Halliford.  I'm not sure on that. The rules for rugby players as a part time, 2nd job, short term contract etc
A workplace is a temporary workplace if an employee goes there only to perform a task of limited duration or for a temporary purpose

Correct Halliford - any payment classed as travel would/should be added to his gross income and subject to Tax & NI. As a club with several services personnel in our ranks I agree with a previous poster that you'll be lucky to get 10 games out of him so barely worth a monthly retainer - funds could be better spent on an alternative I would have thought

It'll be coming from the same place as most of the other clubs in Nat 2 - a rich man or group of men. There'll be very, very few clubs that can balance their books at the end of a season without that. Which is why situations such as Rugby Lions, Birmingham and Solihull etc will keep on happening. It's madness and I have very little idea why the people running a club would want to do that.
There are some exceptions though.

Hello.

While the fabulous Raiders' support does add to the bar coffers and is always welcome...

I'm only answering this point in case Clifton supporters read this thread and have concern about our budget;

This season's expenditure is similar to last season's and the one before that.

The club operates as a profitable business and is not funded by any rich individuals.

I am very grateful for the team who look after the club and always humbled by the hard work that goes on by dedicated volunteers to raise funds, control costs and keep the club viable.

I very much look forward to our visit to Worthing again this season - see you in the micro pub I vaguely remember being in last season!

Good luck all!

Many sponsors in number, of low to medium cash input, who are it for the long term is the only sustainable way.
Big money from individual company's or persons will invariably end in tears.

That's one of the keys. There's no secret. Diverse income streams and an iron grip on costs. I'd be kidding if I said it wasn't tight though and you can't relax for a minute. There are volunteers working for clubs at our level that are more professional, dedicated and hard working than many full time employees. Rugby could not happen without them.

The reduced travel support from the RFU is going to hurt Nat2 clubs this year and I'm afraid is evidence of how poorly supported level 4 is by the governing body.

Wyn, I couldn't agree more.

Hopefully we can meet up in the Brooksteed again this season.

2 ? Brad Barnes is the only one, Luke Cuzons has now taken a role overseas.

Looks like I have stoked the Clifton fire a little, guess the new advertising board is paying more than the supporters realise .....

The amount to the player is immaterial. I was told it was around that figure, maybe by mistake but that was around the amount give or take.

Funny, perhaps I should have said approx. per season as per the £20k or £25 k that was mentioned further up this thread ....

£12000 per year (based on 10 months standard Rugby paying contracts), is that better ??
