There were some outstanding performances at the weekend.  I suppose the game at Merton Lane was the one to watch, but I'm sure Barnes will be made up with their (first ever ??) win at the Recreation Ground.   I suspect that that might be this year's yo-yo put to bed ? Clap

The most interesting result for me was the 5pter by B&S against OA's.......not a huge shock but it will keep Dings, Raiders and Old Reds on their toes for a while yet Ouch   They are battling hard and who knows ?  I suspect that that 5pt penalty means it is a bridge too far.
Raiders have to play Dings and Reds yet, so some damage will be done to somebody there.  Eek.

Lastly......a super 0-5 away win for TJ's at Taunton.  They are starting to pick up TBP's now and although it is likely too late for them this year, they appear to be setting their stall out nicely for a push next season. Clap

Another fascinating day in our league.
Rams just need 3pts now to tie up their deserved position as champs.
The City Side still need another 10pts I think to tie up second......and with Barnes and Rams as the last two fixtures, this remains uncertain.  I think they will make it and will also be strong favourites to win the home playoff.

At the bottom the B & S great escape.....a la Old Reds last year, is going to provide some late excitement.  They are only 4pts behind Dings now, and (those fateful) 5pts behind Reds and Raiders.  Even Barnes can't feel safe yet.
Huge game between B & S and Barnes next week,   B & S have Rams and TJ's up last, but neither will have anything but (huge) pride to play for by then ?   It is going to be very tight if B & S beat Barnes.....particularly if it were 5-0.

With Dings, Reds and Raiders also playing each other........there are teams that COULD be caught.

Anyway......very good wins for B & S,  OLd Reds and Guernsey today......also, my lot gave TJ's quite a scare at the Slade.  Still much to play for.   The City Side got the job done again........but not as decisively as I had anticipated.

Pretty sure LIWG are now relegated.

Tough match for Rams today, Redruth came with a game plan, but another 5 points................

Barnes at home this weekend, potentially 5 points, RAMS away, at best 1 point (try bonus) and TJ's at home last game of the season ..... mmmmm you might well be right, it is going to be very close ......

mmmmm that was the plan that was damage limitation from the start, slow the game down at every chance, the RAMS water boy spent more time on the pitch than in the technical area there were that many stoppages for "injuries" and have the captain constantly in the ear of the referee at every stoppage in play, complaining about the RAMS illegal play .... yep, suppose you can call that a plan Jester ....

There are laws for the ref to stop chat etc, sadly it is endemic from the top level.
If our beloved refs applied the laws in place , hookers would not have their feet in play when throwing in, Scrum put in would be straight , Back chat 10 meters etc etc  and Hookers would be hookers!!
It is Sunday and I can dream.
Another G&T? Ok if I must.

Very good win by Hawks yesterday, yes LIWG are relegated now, it’s been tough for them this year, maybe next time they might stay up?! So we need max points for the remaining three games to have a chance of a play off and Canterbury to slip up!! Rams need just three points to be crowned champions, well played all season and good luck in Nat 1 next season.

In fairness to Redruth, this is what happened ....

1) Clearly not as fit as RAMS, so any opportunity to go down for a rest, then a player did, where the RFU have changed from my day, prop down at formation of a lineout, play on, but in todays saftey is paramount world, the referee stops the game ...

2) When there was a break in play, and there were lots of them, the Redruth captain, who was a hooker, always took time to be having a chat with the referee, that is fine and within the laws (to a degree) but every break in play?? Some would say, well why didn't RAMS do that but there is a real skill to it and we're still a very young team ...

3) As an ex referee, I don't have a major problem with hookers being slightly in the field of play when they throw the ball in and as for the throw in at the scrum, Level 4 compared to Level 1 is streets ahead (in the main) when it comes to being straight ... and most hookers (again in the main) do actually hook ...

4) They made sure that they would be awkward at scrum time and we had a lot of resets, that the referee could have been harsher on, as lets face it, it certainly wasn't RAMS being naughty, as the whole league knows, we love to scrummage legally ....

The biggest problem re refree's is that the modern trend is to RUSH young officials through the system (driven by WR requirments), they don't gain enough experience of learning their trade and learning coping techniques with awkward situations, so when they do encounter them at Level 4 with some very experienced players, they're found wanting, and to be fair, it's not all their fault ...

If I was starting my career again (as a 13 year old), I would be in The Premiership by about the age of 25, not 35 which is when I did get there .....

Technically, it's 2 points but thanks for your best wishes, you'll be hoping that we beat Canterbury on the last day of the season, stop them scoring 4 tries and getting within 7 points in losing to us .... we'll do our best, the guys are FOCUSED on getting 3 more 5 point wins and finishing on 139 for the season ....

Clive.......Practically it is 2pts.......but technically it is 3pts.  There remains a theoretical possibility that Canterbury  can match the number of Rams wins and overturn the points difference in doing so.   I don't imagine however, that this pedantry will cause much loss of sleep amongst the Rams faithful Wink.

Also, I expect that competition for places will keep your boys motivated to the end.....particularly with next year in mind ?  I expect to see 139pts myself.

There is certainly a very positive vibe within the squad at Bees - hitting some form, squad injuries down to a minimum and unbeaten at home since Xmas. However, the size of the task is not lost on us, particularly having been handicapped by the 5-point deduction. One game at a time and we'll see what transpires.

What ever happens though, we have a great time in this league, visiting some old friends of past glorious years and playing some teams whose paths we have not previously crossed Beer

Much has been resolved today.

I'll start at the bottom....where the relegation battle is all but over (IMO).  Guernsey are I think, definitely relegated.  Even if they win their last two games with maximum points, they can only tie Dings and the latter have more wins.  FWIW......I think that they will be back very quickly.

The surprising (to me) heavy defeat at home to Barnes, has almost certainly consigned B&S to the last relegation place.  They have Rams and TJ's up next and most likely, need at least 7pts out of those two games to have any chance or survival.  No disrespect, but that is highly unlikely and their brave battle is probably over.Ouch

Well done to Barnes on their excellent away win today.......they are confirmed members of Nat2S next season Clap

At the other end, Rams are confirmed champions.  Well done to the whole club......we will watch your progress with interest next year Big smile

Whoever gets our playoff place is now guaranteed a home game.

The City Side will be pleased that Barnes won today........their trip there may be slightly easier now, but it is still a potential banana skin.  TJ's and Hawks will continue playing with hope.

An interesting day at Clifton today. Rams supporters seemed to outnumber Clifton by about 2 to 1. At one point Clifton led 14-12 with Rams down to 14 men. The 7 man Rams scrum sent Clifton back at a rate of knots, a try before half time meant Rams went in 19-12 up, they never looked back.

couldnt get to Worthing game today but delighted with win which looks enough for safety - been a struggle this year with injuries to key players but a good learning experience for some youngsters which should prove a good investment for the future

The Barnes win was not a surprise to the coaches and the players...we have played some great rugby this year, but been inconsistent and probably let 6 good opportunities to win through our fingers. But new coaching team and new systems takes time to bed in, good performances against Canterbury and Geese will earn them a “well done but can do better” on their end of term reports

Barnes came with detailed game plan to derail our game and executed it to perfection. Once they took control of the second half from the kick off, we started to force the game, make errors and very soon it looked as if the heads dropped. Barnes are a very good side.

Yes it does seem that the odds are very much against us now, but I am certain that it aint over for our lads until the fat lady sings

Just to say it was a pleasure to host the legions of Rams fans on Saturday. They certainly outnumbered the home support. "The clash" and first day of the cricket season didn't help.

Good luck in ND1
