So B&S are gone too now.  Farewell chaps....you did really well......it might be a slight consolation that the 5pt penalty was not decisive in the end ?  Maybe not.  I am sorry I did not take my chance to get up to Portway when I could .

Congratulations to the City Side, who escaped their final and quite significant banana skin at Barnes today.  They have a home playoff against Chester now, which I am confident they will win.  Perhaps they will feel otherwise, but with both promotion and relegation battles settled, I can think of no reason why they would not put out a second team against Rams next week.  Stay focused on the prize.

Otherwise, strong if not unexpected wins for the TJ's and Hawks.  Well done chaps and good luck next season.

I think that the only slight shock today was my lot winning at Dings.....I was n't there unfortunately.....still psychologically damaged after my Old Reds trip to Brizzle.  Mistake.   Well done lads.......good Raid.

I wish Canterbury all the best for the play off with Chester. I feel we couldn’t keep 2nd spot, our losses with the top three teams home and away cost us, but fourth place is good for us, especially we were only 9th last season, so we’ll played lads, maybe next year?!!

With the clear majority of issues in Nat2S now resolved for the season,  interest (well mine anyway) turns to the makeup of our league next year.  I think it is going to be very strong again.

In Nat1.......I think the Students are nearly down, albeit with loads of league points, including 25 BP's, tied with Ampthill, the champions.
I suspect they have a very strong chance of going straight back up ?   Caldy need 1pt to guarantee this outcome I think.

Otherwise,  it looks like both Esher and Cambridge, despite similarly high points totals, need minor miracles to escape now, so we have a comparatively rare incidence of perhaps, two southern sides departing Nat1 in the same season ?

In recent history, sides relegated to Nat2S have come down with high hopes of an immediate return and have been surprised to find themselves nearer mid-table.   This time, i would not be gobsmacked if both mounted a promotion challenge ?

I THINK that perhaps this leaves another interesting possibility.  Firstly,  there will not be a level transfer from North to South this year.....definitely.  But......should Chester win at Merton Lane in the playoff, then we might see the first ever level transfer South to North ?  I might be wrong, but if not, who would that be ?

In the other direction, we are joined by Sutton & Epsom and Bournemouth.  Wimbledon fell at the last so I think that Westcliff host Barum in a playoff.  I know a lot of our fans will be cheering Barum on, in the hope of another boozy Raid Big smile

I've been to S & E before as well as Bournemouth.......successful raids as I recall Wink  Never been to Westcliff before, though I have been to Southend Saxons many times.......have Westcliff benefitted from the recent (relative) demise to level 6 ?

It might be interesting to hear how anyone thinks matters might resolve themselves next year ?

Looks to me like it would be BSE or the Blood and Sand that would be headed north should Canterbury slip up Ouch  That should confuse Camquin

If Chester beat Canterbury in the play-off, and Esher and Cambridge are relegated then the candidates for the transfer to N2N would probably be Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds or Old Albanian

It would be the first time in a long time someone was sent North.
Ampthill are of course naturally in the North - due to the joy of the RFU boundaries.

While it might confuse the Northerners to find themselves play Bury, "isn't that in Lancashire?",
I think Cambridge would be in line.
I suspect many of Bury's journeys would take them past Cambridge to reach the A1 and Albanians would need to come up the A1 past us.

With Peterborough and South Lecester going down, that takes away two of the short journeys.

When I said on the Nat 1 forum that we want to stay up to keep our travel short, I was thinking of the trips to Devon and Cornwall, I had not thought about transfer.

If we go down and then North we have old foes at:

Loughborough

Sedgley Park

Tynedale

Fylde

Stourbridge

Wharfedale

Macclesfield

The defining criterion is (I believe) the aggregate distance travelled by road, to all opponents grounds......so yes, it looks very much like it would be Cambridge, but I think the City Side are very likely to bail you out.
And as far as I can make out, NO southern side has ever been level transferred north ?

Methinks Redruth should be transferred North - give some of the Northern clubs a shock to play at Hellfire Corner  WinkWink

As you say it may not have been decisive, but had they not had the 5pt deduction, they would have still had something other than pride to play for this weekend, as would Dings as they would still have been within striking distance.

I knew that Is nothing sacred? But interesting to see such a frenetic turnover of clubs up and down.

Yep and rather than ring fence the premiership it should be two down and two up for that league which would shake them up a bit.

Jester........I use Statbunker and it is a great and usually quite reliable source of data.  Unfortunately, for some reason it is a full three weeks out of date at the moment. Really annoying.  TRP has some basic stuff but is less accurate on occasion ?

What did you need to know specifically ?  I can tell you Ben Henderson is second highest tryscorer and Jumpin Jak has climbed those rankings well of late......maybe tied 4th/5th

Thanks Darth, I was just interested to see who was top of the charts, presume it's the lad from Old Reds. Jumpin Jak made a late bid for glory with a brace in both of the last two games.

Henry Bird has indeed had an outstanding season.......is on 27 tries now I think and is well clear.  Not sure if Jak is on 18 or 20 ?
