Today's debut fixture for Oggylanders in Taunton has a pretty solid squad list including a couple of names that are new even at this stage of the proceedings:

Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

Darlington Mowden Park played Tynedale RFC today in a lively and entertaining game in beautiful conditions at Darlington.

It finished 40-21 to Mowden, with the highlight being new lock Max Davies picking up the ball in his own half and running at least 50 metres for a great solo try.

What did you think about the game SHA?

I thought Taunton might give Albion a run for their money but in all honesty, I think the result flattered the home side. Stupple (in particular), Salter, Mugford and Setter were excellent although some of the new signings disappointed. The pack (with Salter at hooker) remains impressive but the three quarters perhaps less so?

TJoS,

Hard not to over-analyse PSFs, isn't it?

New coach, new season, new squad - so there was a lot to shake down. Usual fumbles, slips, etc; but not a bad showing overall. We've lost a talismanic Matt Shepherd at 15 who was never one to shy away from taking charge at the back, so more work to be done there. Scoreline was 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, and by rights the home tally should have stayed like that. Not taking anything away from the persistent Titans, but we lost the plot a little in the final minutes with 2 x YC and that final try.

But job done on the warm-up front - especially as it it's the biggest test we'll get before season start. We have Exe Uni (loadsa Chiefs Academy, apparently) next Sun and followed a curious hybrid "training day" with the Pirates ahead of the first proper fixture on 7 Sep.

The travelling support certainly enjoyed the day out - especially the 90 min journey in spite of holiday traffic. Great little set up overall and our Head Shed certainly liked the hosts'.
Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!
