Westy had gone by then (Sept 1965). 'The Don' (A New School Rule Every Day) (I'll run my comprehensive like a Public School if I want to, even if my son is a liability) Thompson was in charge. Don't think I'll ever recover LOL

Ah ok.  Just wondered, as Mr (later Dr, he did an OU doctorate in his retirement) West was SWMBO's grandfather.  We have the portrait of him that used to hang in the school hall hanging on our wall at home now, we got it rescued when Woodlands closed last year.  He was always a keen rugby man, often attended games at Coundon Road, and his son John, my pa-in-law, turned out for Cov a few times in his younger days.

But this is all nowt to do with Stortford.

No, but of interest to the many ex-Woody pupils who are Cov supporters (a good many).
He retired in 1963 I think, having been Head from the start, at the very dawn of the Comprehensive school system, as you no doubt know. Didn't know him though, and didn't realise he had proper rugby-playing progeny Wink
