I'm sure it's not deliberate, but it is rather unfortunate. Hopefully Billy will be able to laugh about the article when things calm down.

Has it been edited? Don't see what the problem is apart from your Fylde tinted glasses

The article was written after Birkenhead had announced the news via their media channels. What is wrong with a club expressing solidarity with one of their former players?

Do you get a kick out of constantly putting Hoppers down and scoring 'points' for Fylde? Why on earth would you try and get an angle out of this story to put a club down when it involves a human being losing a limb. It beggars belief the depths that you will go to in order to bad mouth Preston Grasshoppers. I hope Fylde are proud of your conduct.

Nothing to do with Fylde just a personal observation

Not sure if  there's a Preston/Fylde thing going  on here, however I think Preston need to re-think their "mantra" on this one, unintentional but probably a teeny bit crass if read by a man on a galloping horse......

This tool isn't representative of Fylde. He just has a bitter jealousy of Hoppers and is sick enough to try and use this as a way to criticise Hoppers.

To change the mantra at this stage would actually draw attention to something that would only be evident on first view to someone bitter and twisted. The message is clear, the club will be behind its former player. The guy needs the support of his mates and he knows that the club is there for him.

Much more powerful to use the mantra now more than ever. To have not done would have been wrong even with the warping of the sentiment by someone with such a resentment of a good club.

He's shunned at the Woodlands by many so pity him rather than rise to him.

It's not just Preston, either. He regularly trolls other clubs although he does have a handful of favourite targets.

Billy Woof deserves and needs the support of all rugby men. There but by the grace of God!
We do not need comments such as that from Mighty Pen who ought to be ashamed. Good luck Billy - we're rooting for you!

Another embarrassing and misguided post from the self proclaimed Mighty Pen. I'm still struggling to see what purpose it served. The fact of the matter is that a number of the Hoppers squad are friends of Billy's and remained in regular contact following his move to BP. This contact continued after his life-changing injury and as you would expect they were all extremely upset when the severity of the injury became apparent. The club waited until BP made a statement before expressing their own message of support, this was out of respect to Billy, his family, friends and team mates. Furthermore it came after direct contact had been made with Billy himself and when it was deemed appropriate to comment in the public domain. I find it particularly unsavoury that somebody has used this poor young man's injury as a means to try and score points and critiscise a rival club. What is more unfortunate is that I am not surprised as this is not the first time this has happened. I wager that the only "blunder" was the original post and suggest that it was not Hoppers that were crass but the self proclaimed Mighty Pen. Perhaps a new username would be appropriate.

I applaud Hoppers speed and sentiment wholeheartedly.  There's absolutely nothing crass there.  But there is an accidental turn of phrase which I personally would have edited once it was pointed out i.e. "Billy will always be a Grasshopper".  It would be much more crass to deliberately misconstrue and make mileage out of a commendable, if unintentionally unfortunately worded, statement. In any event, I don't know him but I suspect Billy himself will take no offence whatsoever and simply be touched by such a sincere message of support.
