BBC have reported that Brian 'Stack' Stevens has passed away:

Those of us of a certain age remember him fondly
If we were all judged by the worst thing we'd ever done, none of us would come out very well.

I don't even consider myself of a certain age (50 last year, so maybe I am), but I remember him fondly and the warmth and respect with which he's spoken about in Cornwall - he featured prominently (and rightly so) in a historical presentation by Phil Westren that I had the privilege of attending at Westholme on the eve of our first Championship visit there in April '13.
Great pride in Kernow (and again, rightly so) that his son plays for the Pirates.

'Stack' played in the 1st international I attended at 'HQ', NZ 1973, the same year he went to Auckland and scored 'that try' in the win there - tours to NZ were like hens' teeth in those days, let alone wins where a Cornish prop forward scores the winning try (which is on YouTube).

RIP Stack

Stack was a Cornwall legend and a Penzance & Newlyn RFC hero. There was a great book written on him by former Pirates player Steve Tomlin recently which is well worth a read.

BBC Radio Cornwall also broadcast a fantastic interview with Stack from the 1970s this afternoon - it can be heard here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05gknh5  It is somewhere between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes into the programme.
I may live in Surrey, but my heart is in Cornwall.

I remember playing against Penzance Newlyn colts in the late 70s. Stack came on the pitch at half time to give some tips to the home front row. After a couple of minutes he suddenly broke off and invited the opposition front row, me included, to join the master-class. Couldn't see that happening these days; a total gentleman and legend, he'll be sadly missed.
Speak softly, but carry a big stick.
