Not quite true - apparently Bristol zoo had a Polar Bear cub born there in the late 50's - but yeah other than that less than no reason to pick it as a name

I'm ashamed of what used to be my club.  I can only apologise to supporters of clubs that haven't taken leave of their senses.

We should have a poll:
Does the wholesale use of nicknames damage club rugby?

i would summarise this as just a horribly miscalculated marketing gimmick with zero thought given to the supporters. the new badge looks absolutely ridiculous. have a lot of sympathy for Bristol fans over this. they could've changed their name and still kept the same badge and kits. I think the re-brand is horrendous to be honest.

I can barely believe this change. I hope the club don't come to a grizzly end.

Any thoughts on other marketing makeovers? Perhaps:
 - Leeds Terriers (oops I mean Yorkshire),
 - Jersey Royals
 - London Irish Leprechauns
 - London Scottish Haggises
 - Nottingham Outlaws

I thought the mascot was always a bear. If they avoid relegation next season all will be forgiven.

The mascot had been a bear for many years now. On the other hand that's the only connection I can think of. If the marketing idiot who came up with this based it on that then I can only say we were lucky he didn't see the games when the Nando's chicken was there.

Yes Mark. You crack on.

(You must be prepared to bang on endlessly, repetitively, and stultifyingly about it though, or the RFU won't take note).

and indeed Notts CCC. Still, I suppose there's a virtue in consistency. Will be a bit embarrassing if Robin Hood's ever proven to be from Doncaster though....

I think Newcastle Falcons is better than Newcastle Skunks but I still prefer Jersey Rugby Football Club rather than the name that they now go by but I don't lose sleep over it and nor should Bristol.

My American football team has the Chicago Bears as our Arch rivals. We have a fight song called "The Bears Still Suck". I suggest this is imported for next season.

I'm from Kidderminster - we (before the rise of Wuss) looked north for our rugby and south for our cricket. So Moseley and the Pears for me... Incidentally, and I'm still in my 30s, I've just realised that I know what it's like to be the last generation of something. Kidderminster's in Worcs, but close enough to Birmingham to have been a Moseley looking town, but clearly Worcestershire for cricket. Along comes Duckworth's money and suddenly there's a Worcestershire rugby club challenging for the top flight. Younger Kidderminster people (quite rightly) are Wuss fans - and sadly most of my mates changed clubs as the teams passed each other..... But before that there was an outpost of the county that was red and black. Not any more. Sic transit and all that....
