Not sure what that means.

I would suggest that supports my view that home sides often get most of the 50-50 decisions.

A tremendous bonus point away win at DMP for Sale reinforces their credentials. DMP were the early season promotion favourites for many.........Sale must be serious contenders now. With their ability to draft in any number of full time pro players from Sale Sharks in my eyes they are now the promotion favourites.

Who can stop the Sale juggernaut?

Very early days yet. As against Caldy they are winning games by small margins If the league was based on points
difference they would be in 9th position. So maybe they are getting the rub of the green at the minute..
However I do agree with Big Eddie if they are in the mix after Christmas the big guns may step in.

16 of the match day 20 were in the National 2 North team from last year, so they definitely know how to win under pressure as has been shown time and again. We are just about finding our feet in a massively competitive league and I can't hand on heart say who can win this league. Not a clue
The top 9 are within five points of each other and given the proclivity of scoring I suspect there will be lots of five points games to keep things spicy!

BTW Of the four who weren't in last seasons team.

Rotherham see to be building nicely . . and maybe with a few additions could go straight back up? There is also going to be one or two very good sides relegated, injuries will be key to this in my mind as on LS look weak this year . . or will they find some support from LT?
Run with it

Jimbojetset I think you are bending the truth slightly. Are you including any DR'S and loan players from Sharks in the 16 you say played in Nat 2 North last season.
Matt Sturgess springs to mind He signed for Sharks last season.

We don't have any loan players
DR players on Saturday 2. Both on the bench
  • Matt Sturgess (12 games last season should have been more but had a long layoff through injury) and
  • Nic Dolly (9 games last season)
Our starting 15 contained 11 of last seasons Nat 2 North Championship team and our match day 20 contained 16 , not sure which bit is "bending the truth"? None of our DR players have been parachuted in, they train with the squad and are part of our team and philosophy. Nic Dolly is often down at Heywood Road during the day on his own practicing line outs against the posts. People may not like DR's and that's ok, your choice.

Presumably then Johnny Leota is a straight transfer, Doherty and Odogwe who have played for you, but were playing for the Sharks are contracted to you and not to Sharks but you loan them to Sharks?

Jonny Leota is signed for Sale FC not Sharks.
Connor Doherty is a DR but was a colts player for us so swings and roundabouts on him. His dad is a coach in the Junior section of the club.
Paolo Odogwu (not sure where your spelling is from) played for us as a DR two seasons ago and is now back as a DR again.

Sigh. Asked a simple question, replied to a simpleton. Why don't you ask who's calling the shots, our DoR has his email address on the webpage, I'm sure he'd be happy to respond when he's finished coaching the team he's been coaching for years. You've clearly not been around Sale FC Rugby because you'd know the answers.

Jimbo,

Sale FC is possibly the most interesting and intriguing club in levels 1-4 because of its pedigree, its rise from obscurity and the intriguing tie up with Sale Sharks.

To be honest for most on Rolling Maul the pretence that the national 1 league competition is anything other than an RFU/Premiership conspired suck up to the professional ranks  has long since disappeared. We all enjoy the camaraderie of rugby and the fun in visiting and hosting great clubs but other than the pride in our boys and what we cobble together on a Saturday it is the taking part that matters because I don't think anyone in their right mind would really want to step up to the even bigger farce that is the Championship.

Except of course perhaps Sale FC who have a unique business plan and a unique position which most of us do find intriguing. There will be the myths and rumours about how Sale FC and Sale Sharks work together and for my part I suspect that most of what I hear is probably true, but it doesn't really matter if it is true or not because that is how Sale want to do things and that is their right and just how they have planned to progress.  Accordingly my observations on how Sale FC and Sale Sharks are going about things is just that an observation and not a criticism.

I am sure that everyone is interested in how things will unfold and will either be backing Sale FC to meet up with the Sharks in the Championship and hopefully for Sale FC to prevail in that particular battle or perhaps waiting for Sale FC to run out of puff. Personally I think it will be the former rather than the latter......

.....and as for the rumours that on a Thursday Steve Diamond tells Jonathan Keep the 6 or 7 players who must be playing on the Saturday and Keepy fills in the blanks, I don't buy that for one minute.........I think Steve Diamond tells him that on the Tuesday

I know tulip but I would be flabbergasted if Mr Keep told Mr Diamond who he wanted.

Many years ago I was running Caldy's 2nd team. One particular Saturday we were playing New Brighton our greatest rivals, we had a very strong pack but little pace apart from one lad who was strong and quick but the then DoR wanted him to develop as a 7. I picked him on the wing.

The DoR approached me before the kick off and asked me to move the lad from wing to 7.

I demurred explaining my rationale. I could see the DoR was fuming but after the lad scored a couple of tries to put us ahead at the half time mark I felt vindicated. As we huddled as a team during oranges the DoR called me to the pitch side insisting that now I had to make the switch, I said I would consider it but only if the team captain supported the move explaining that the win against New Brighton was hugely important for the 2nd team squad.

I went back into the huddle to explain the request which the Captain instantly rejected. 'What would you like me to tell the DoR' I asked the Captain who was a senior player 'Tell him to go f**k himself' he retorted.

I relayed the message word for word. Not my finest diplomacy.

The consequences of my foolishness were visited upon me some months later at the club dinner where the 2nd team were awarded the team of the year after coming runner up to Sedgley Park in the Bateman Premiership.

There at the table was a coach I recognised from another local club. 'What is he doing here' I enquired of Caldy's current DoR, 'let me introduce you to Caldy's 2nd team coach for next season was the reply'

Steve Diamond doesn't work for Sale FC, Jonathan Keep does.
Steve Diamond isn't our DoR Jonathan Keep is.
As for Diamond telling our DoR who to pick, that does make me smile, both DR players we had this week were on the bench.
  • Against Cambridge 2 started (drew)
  • Against Caldy 2 started (won)
  • Against Cinderford 2 Started (lost)
  • Against Bishops Stortford 3 Started (won)
  • Against Rotherham 3 started (lost)
  • Against OE's 3 started (won)
  • Against Darlington 0 started (won)
So, you were saying that when Steve Diamond says we have to start 6 then our DoR does what he's told?
