We didn't have Barney at ODP for long but I thought he was a very good player. One of those guys in the engine room who does a lot of hard work but doesn't get the credit. It's only when he's not there that you realise just how much work he gets through.
he has been excellent at Ealing and will be missed

Barney was at Roth for 3/4 years terrific player and top bloke Ican'believe Ealing let him go after winning their player of the year award it's a great signing for Irish.

I'm gutted that Booj has gone, it's a huge loss for us at Blues it really is, I was so excited that he'd signed up for another two years - but I can't blame him for pursuing the opportunity once it arose.  He'll nail down a starting place too once he gets his chance I reckon.  Hopefully we got a fee as he was in contract.

I doubt it dunk999.  Every season the Premiership Cartel r a p e the Championship of players and we get nowt in return   Angry

I understand that Wasps have paid out the first year of his 2 Yr contract with the Blues. So given that we had increased his annual salary to keep him away from Ealing, it should be in the region of about 50-60k compensation.

I doubt we'll be able to replace him at such short notice though with anyone near as good.
Run it!

I thought Bedford was part time. Obviously not.

You do understand what the phrase “part-time” means, right? Booj may have had a large salary increase to keep Ealing away, but he still only would’ve been training 3 nights a week! We also don’t call ourselves part time, we call ourselves semi-professional. I.e we have a mix of full time pros and part-time players (e.g Toops, Dodge etc)

Wow I'd be very surprised if Bedford were paying that much for training semi-professional. When my nephew was at Plymouth he was approached by Pirates who offered him a contract nowhere near that amount...and they were full-time.

Also more surprising would be a Premiership club constrained by a salary cap being prepared to pay 60k + salary on a player who may or may not feature in half a dozen matches. But then again rumour has it some premiership clubs and salary caps don't necessarily go hand in hand hahahahahaahahaa

Firstly, I would say I think the OP is having an educated guess on Boojs salary rather than knowing for sure. It’ll be based on the fact we’ve heard we matched what Ealing were prepared to offer and that Ealing were offering more than double what we were offering some of our other players that moved. I reckon £50k is probably ball park, which would’ve been significantly more than we pay most of our players. Lest we forget though, he has just been voted the best player in the division.

Secondly, I believe prem squad players routinely earn £60k and above these days. I think prem salaries have soured in recent years, which is why clubs are regularly posting huge losses. He may have also not took much/any payrise to move as the lure of the premiership is often enough.

I know nothing

Sorry I meant difficult to understand a Prem club paying 60k to buy him out of contract and then his salary on top (which may be equal or less than he was at Bedford).

The only people who will know for sure are the Bedford DoR, the player, his agent and Wasps!

this would fit with what I've heard about some of Ealings players...3k a year more but the lure of premiership

Heavy caveat that this is an agency putting this stuff out there (to jack up salaries) but worth a look:

If the average is anywhere near the 200k quoted then Booj is an absolute steal! I don't think it's that high but probably gives some context for massive losses in Prem clubs this year.

Bedford are in my opinion a real rugby club producing some top class rugby players
Thats why they have  been raided by premiership clubs
One can argue that they are 'happy' being a championship side is not in their favour
However is not our club seen in the same light ?
Great supporters lovely place to go for rugby
However still not a fan of their bitter
but nothing is perfect

Third in the Championship,Semi Finalists in the cup, achieved with mainly Bedford's own players. Personally, dual registration is not the answer either for the players or the club's. Two or three season long loans yes by all means,so they get lots of game time.Doing this without accruing a significant loss would be an even better one. Same again please.
