Rather more than that announced now by Coventry. 7 X DRs from clubs far and wide...

Disappointing that the situation dictates bringing in DRs to cover leavers, but c'est la vie when the devil pishes on your cornflakes I suppose.
Hopefully things will settle down after the upcoming mini-tournament (or season, as some regard it).

Absolutely no question.

Hopefully not for too long though (doing what they have to do, I mean. Not 'surviving' Wink).

Richmond have two fine signings (at least) in Maxy Trimble and George Oram
Not sure where Jake Byrne has been, but I'm fairly sure he's not been linked with Cov for three or more years.

Bedford announce retirements of scrum half Grayson Hart and back row Dan Temm to pursue other work commitments. Temm is a massive loss. Squad is looking v thin now at key positions of hooker, no.8, 9 and 10. Not sure if we have any other new signings or if these retirements have been known about for a while and just announced today, or just come to light.

Bedford get scrum half Ewan Fenley and Olli  Robinson (back row) from Ealimg on loan for the season. Fenley looked very nippy when I saw him, Robinson didnt stand out.

Question and it’s not a dig at Bedford at all

But why would one Champ club loan players to another Champ club?

I know Bedford have done a wonderful job in pulling in funds to cover costs, but these now seem to be spent on loan players, so they can field a side.

It’s not a dig, but for the life of me I cannot see the longevity in this!! Unless somebody from Bedford can possible explain

Probably because it’s the only place they can get rugby - in a normal season players would be loaned to National League clubs. I expect there will be a clause preventing them from playing against their own club.

Oli Robinson was excellent for Moseley while we had him, I can't remember where he went to after, possibly a Welsh Pro 14.

Blues once loaned players from Worcester when we were in the Premiership and they were in ND1 at the time. We had money issues then!

The reasoning behind loaning Ealing players would be, if you dip down to say ND1 they haven’t played or trained in ages, so to get them fit enough could take half the season if you are lucky. Whether we should have looked at Scottish players instead maybe. At least with Ealing they have been training for ages so at least they will be ready to go!

When we borrowed Lydon off Ealing I am sure he played against them and scored a try - may have got that wrong.

This season is more about getting out playing rugby again.

I don’t think Lydon played against Ealing, but was excellent in the games he played and was swiftly recalled. We get a lot of cast offs from Ealing and they operate such a huge squad that there are some very good championship players who don’t get a look in. Oil Curry barely got a game there but has been one of our most consistent players since signing. Onajaife was signed from us after he stood out, had a season festering in the reserves and came back and is still a quality champ operator. We’ll see about the loanees but I expect they are mainly a cheap way to add depth; the scrum half will be number 3 behind Tupai and Lennon. I expect we will not be able to use them against Ealing.

With regards to longevity, yes there is none! But for 9 teams this season (and probably next season) is just about getting 23 players on the pitch, playing some rugby and bringing some joy to the fans. Once the future of the league is clear and normal revenue streams have returned, I’m sure the business model will be closer to what it was pre pandemic. But at the moment the saints deal and loans like this are just cost effective ways to actually play rugby in the short term.

NB: not the same Oli Robinson that played for Moseley/Cardiff but even statbunker thinks they are the same player.

Olly Robinson - ex-Moseley and Brizzle, currently at Cardiff Blues.

Oli Robinson - Newcastle Falcons Academy product at Ealing.
