hi all

as some of the old wakey fans are on the forum does anyone know what happening next season as wakefield fc have been told there not welcome and will have no extension to their lease by wakefield sports club, they have said another club are leasing it,

i know plenty of people in local on league football and nobody knows of any lower non league clubs wanting to take over college grove and next season all four senior wakefield teams will have major problems mainly relegation and two having no ground.

all i can think of is either a local rugby football league team stepping or are a new wakefield rfc looking to starting yorkshire 5 ????????

rather have wakefield back than eastmoor dragons reserves

I doubt very much a) on the reformation of Wakefield RFC (as much as I would like to see it Cry) and b) a reformed club playing at College Grove as they would have no income sources to pay the rent.

As you may know the Wakefield Express have been running a story that the entire complex want to sell up for housing and move elsewhere - athough knowing the problems that both Wakefield RFC and Trinity had in trying to find a new ground, I can't see where they are planning to go to? Unless the Thornes Park idea raises it head again.

The best I can see happening is a ground share at the new Trinity ground - not that I am confident it will be built...I understand that at one point Guiseley were looking to play there to further their ambitions.

Similarly for Wakefield FC if they want their own ground, where would it be but more importantly how would they finance it? Your crowds are lower than Wakefield RFC's which is saying something and the Wakefield Express reported that you couldn't afford the rent on College Grove and were using a middle man to finance your time there.

The Express reported that the Hockey club had interest in taking over the rugby/football field and laying another astroturf pitch - although if they are planning to move, I can't see this happening, it makes no sense on spending all the money doing to the ground works and then having to dig up the pitch to take it with you later.

As for the other local football clubs - I can't see any wanting to come into Wakefield - Ossett Town are looking for a new ground in Ossett after selling their old ground and there are suggestions that they may ground share with Dewsbury RL until that is built.

Ossett Albion have their own set up - can't see them wanting to swap one complex for another and potentially losing their supporters in the process.

I can't see Frickley wanting to do a 'Emley' and move away from their roots.

In fact looking at this as an outsider I can't see what 'the old Emley' club have achieved by moving into Wakefield - it's not increased crowds and or a better standard of football.

hi

must be league then, i really dont think wakefield will continue the owner has been trying to sell them for a few years and the council wont help, ossett town or tesco town have lost a lot of there sponsors as a result of tesco wanting to open a store in ossett and closing the town centre down.
thankfully ossett albion even though they will go down especially after yesterdays poor performance look the safest as they can's get in much debt an they are part of the ossett sport club so can be kicked out like wakefield, and frickley will stay on until the ground subsides away and then they will look for a new eu funded stadium that will never happen.
ideally wakefield fc would suit the new trinity stadium IF it ever built, but knowing how things happen trinity will be at oakwell for years, some wakefield fc fans have talked about moving back to belle vue as the council will need a tenant soon and could possibily be a temporary home also though poor and basic nostell mw ground has been mentioned.

would you think sandal rufc milnthorpe green could become a temporary home if they could take the greenhouse covered terrace from college grove and all of the portacabins i would hope that apart from some turnstiles there would be no reason that they cannot move in there.

thanks

yours in sport

At this rate, the only rugby league club at College Grove will be Trinity!

I would have thought that Milnthorpe Green would need too much doing to it to meet the standards required of league football - College Grove was a good standard but I heard that Wakefield FC had to spend a few quid on it to bring it up to the required standards and Milnthorpe Green is less developed than College Grove. The old Emley ground is a better bet!

morning

the required standard for enter to npl div north are 1,500 cap 100 covered seats 100 covered standing and 3 turnstiles plus others how many seats are at sandal ?
the greenhouse covered stand at college grove had a 150 capacity but would need anchoring down well as sandal is a bit more exposed,
the three sided ground ruling does not stand anymore and was the main reason old emley had to move to belle vue like what happened with bishop auckland.
If wakefield moved back up to emley then lol a full circle the welfare ground is still good enough for the conference north entre and if they ever built as planned the 1000 seater stand behind the kop then could not see why any problems with conference national.
I would think that peter matthews (wakefield owner) would look to re merge the teams together at emley and continue playing in the npl div one north

thanks

Had to reply as although I'm unaware of the in's and out's of various league requirements on ground's etc but there is a rumour going round that a Wakefield side is being discussed, purely on a social basis to being with, with a possibility of the team playing at College Grove.Thumbs Up

hi

Last game I watched with my son chris at college grove was Wakefield versus orrell. We had come to watch our old mate alfie tooala playing. How times really change both great clubs. I really wished Wakefield and orrell were still there. Ironically the very first game I took my son to see was Wakefield v saracens around 1996 I would think. Wakefield won roughly 15 -12 or similar. His passion for the game stemmed from then onwards.

That's right, Paul Stewart got sent off for arguing with the Ref and subsequently banned for a good few games. The irony was the Ref on the day was a member of Wakefield RFC who was asked to blow the game at the last minute.
