Why bugg*r? It means that Hertfordshire's chances of pipping Cornwall to the post are improved, but that doesn't mean that I'm not pleased to see a more sensible penalty applied for a multitude of reasons.

FWIW, I still believe that Hertfordshire have been hard done by, the new penalty still represents over 13% of the points available to them, making it significantly more harsh than National League equivalents and in the context of the competition means that there could still be a scenario where a side with a 100% record misses out on the final, which could have been avoided with a one point penalty.

I often feel that the "gin soaked blazers" comments are a bit of a bandwagon / default point of view on here, but in this instance, I really have to question the competence of the disciplinary committee who handed out the original penalty. How could they get the penalty wrong by a factor of 50%? Did they not understand how draconian the penalty was in the context of the competition?

[QUOTE=RedOrDead] Any thoughts on the North pool? It looks set for a tight finish. I said at the outset that based on the performances of the member clubs and the previous season, Cheshire were my favourites to return to Twickenham. This now looks unlikely after their loss to Yorkshire, is this indicative of a stronger Yorkshire side this time out?[/QUOTE

In the starting line ups for this weekend games Lancashire play 1 player from Nat 3 North whils't Yorkshire start 5 from Nat 3 North. Whether that is a weaker side time will tell.

It's bugg*r because it means that there are now 2 dead rubbers in the group and makes it a one match round. Plus Kent is my county.

Given points differences at play, I'd suggest that there's more riding on the matches with the deduction reduced. Also, as demotion is based over two seasons, there's no such thing as a dead rubber this season.

Herts player sin-binned. From resulting penalty, kick to touch and then Sam Matavesi dives over to score and Matt Shepherd adds the conversion for 31-21.
