No, its not some big club announcement. Just something that im addressing, that has been on my mind for a little less than a while.

That is regarding "amateur" Dorking. I am a Dorking supporter from birth, London Scottish follower through chance. Watched the chicks away @OE's anyone remember the Red Card? 22-22 I believe it was. Seen us in both level 5 & 4. I can't help understand how we manage to recruit players in the previous regime of leadership under that of Richie Andrews now of OR's. Armand whose it at the helm, regardless the fact I believe he is definetly one of the best coaches I have met. This has yet to transpire to results on the pitch. With the club now fully reliant on the home grown talent and the occasional new comer that comes in. Interesting to see a young 18 year old who recently was sporting the 3rd XV, making an appearance for the 1st XV in the recent loss to Saxons.

Anyway, the point of my topic. How were we, considering I know that we don't pay players as such. How did we recruit the likes of Matt Betty (OE's now) Signed from EG who would definetly have him on good money. Andy Frost (Still here) from L4 Saxons when we were in Nat 3, aswell as John Brake (England 7s) to name a few.

I no doubt believe that Armand will crack L5 in the not so far future with a squad that has some exciting talent coming through, ready to pair with the likes Noble,Watts & Pimlow who have served the 1st XV for a number of years now.

Dorking must have the youngest squad in L5, I wonder what their average squad age is every week

I know nothing of how Dorking works but I do know how and why some players play for particular clubs at this level (and sometimes lower levels).

Often, players understand when they have 'peaked", and when considering their futures may find employment/training in a profession of their choice (anything from Stock-broking to Plumbing) with a company, or an individual, who is supportive of their local club.

its quite simple really, and looking at it from a players perspective, it makes perfect sense, and is something of a long-term, lifestyle reward for the hours and hours of training and playing the game.

Well thats an interesting read, and brings a new meaning to the word 'Dropout'. Apart from being incoherent, it reads as such. I would hazard a guess it was written under the influence of something. No idea... but just one clue in the script. Really will anyone go to any lengths to create a new thread. !!!Embarrassed

I thought it was an interesting point, how do clubs recruit players at this level (if they do), what are the drawing factors, if not money. Do any clubs actively try to recruit players each season, or is it all just hearsay and home grown talent

Am I reading between the lines that dropout22 is implying that Dorking are still paying players, or is that he’s heard the rumours and is not impressed? Or is he worried with the new RFU professional rules next season that Dorking will not be able to compete?

Ahaaa Cannon.  No, No, and No, as none apply and never have done. Thats why we are where we are mid table L5 and re-building with our youth. A far cry from our once 5th position in L4. This has all been discussed before at great lengthDisapproveUnhappy and 'put to bed' but clearly still lingers with some. For the benefit of doubt. When a club reaches 5th in L4 in its 1st season and then loses 2/3rds of its team to L3 or higher, to retirement, re-locating or other reasons, it has to re-build or recruit like OE's did to maintain their status. In our case we began the process of re-building from our youth section. The DRFC team for the last 2 seasons have mainly come through minis, juniors and youth. If you are able to give me the name of one paid player at DRFC I would love to hear it, so please advise.

Back to the original post. I suspect 'Dropout22' is a 'Ringer'. Not seen the poster for as long as I have been posting and with low points and old registration date, has been brought out for mischievous reasons. Certainly not a recognisable Dorking member. Any ideas Cannon.?

Seems to be a fairly regular poster on the Championship board - as he says, also a fan of London Scottish.  But presumably had a halfday on Tuesday and started earlier than usual Wink

Just done a bit of digging and I am wrong. Dropout22 does exist and has been posting mainly in Champ/N1 forums since 2017. I give up. Have not a clue who he is and I have been around for a long while. Still cannot comprehend the jumbled garbled incohesive original post.Thumbs Down

As a fellow 'dual-registered fan' - Who are you Sir ?
Please report to FAP and myself in the DRFC Bar tomorrow for further debate.

No ideas who he is, apart from a manure stirrer!!

But I wonder if he’s making the point under the new RFU rules more clubs will have to be honest about how players benefit.

I’m sorry FAP but you cannot say that Dorking have never had players benefit from playing, members/ benefactors have looked after certain players historically. How they work now I accept will be free of incentives.

For the record they are a club I’ve regularly enjoyed playing at, reffing and taking squads to.

Ahh Carlos & FAP I see you lovingly keep EG (aka G-Force) in your thoughts , alas whereas clearly some of us view the forum for the old banter, we now and have been for the last two seasons treading the boards in the Sussex leagues as a fully fledged community club. I am not denying nor would it be a lie to say that some miss the heady heights of N3, however we are back down to the field of reality , have accepted our medicine, moved onwards and are doing ok with the homies (which include a few of the 2012 Twickenham team) .......wishing DRFC & Hertford all the best for the remainder season and I am sure you’ll continue to restock the playing larder from your own allotments

Great stuff Twisty, and so glad things are going well for EG. You will get there and I for one really hope to see EG back up the ladder, as I also hope to see Haywards Heath progress. I firmly believe in the development of young players from minis to seniors and reaping the rewards of all the hard work coaches and members of clubs put in. There is no substitute for loyalty through families, friends and commitment. Good luck.
