Hallett is an outstanding player and probably is the best fly half in the N1 but it is supposed to be an England Counties side not a National League select side. Hallett has represented Ireland and as far as Im aware has never played in the County Championship so should he be eligible for the England Counties side?
Last year Billy Searle was outstanding for Plymouth and was a regular for Cornwall was English and 20 but missed out on selection.
I just think the whole selection process should be more transparent and it should be made clear whether it is for young English players playing for their counties or for anyone?

Excellent to see that they managed to squeeze 3 players in from north of Birmingham.

Spring games it's a Nat league side then in the summer a County but calling it two different names is a waste of time. All boys playing in spring are pressed to play county champs to keep the competition strong and alive not all can due to work commitments . Searle had signed for Bristol and wasn't available.
It's anyone who plays in National Leagues in Spring and County Champs in Summer. It's always been clear.

BFG1, really? So England Counties in Feb/Mar is actually a National League select side and after the County Championship is selected from players playing County rugby.................. then I would suggest it ain't a England Counties side and the RFU should stop expending its hard earned cash on a Dream Team.

You pull on a England Shirt it should be a proud moment and and a earned one. Not a selection of convenience and as for "work commitments" utter tosh so I guess the Tour Party that went to Canada in the summer all had the same holidays booked from work by coincidence? Any employer worth their salt would see that having employee selected to represent their country is a honour and would allow them leave paid or otherwise.

I'm firing an email off to my RFU Council Rep as this is utter b*llocks - if ain't England Counties DON'T call it that!!!

all clubs with players selected for next weeks match should come out and say they are supporting the county championships. You could have the situation where players earn honours next week but come May their club refuses to allow them to represent their county.

Due to an injury this weekend Kieran Hallett has withdrawn from the squad. Moseley's James Williams has been called up instead.

We won't know our team for Saturday until Friday late I imagine but unless the five in the squad play both games it will stretch our resources. Greg King broke his arm on Saturday and I think we have two others with season ending injuries.
Anyway looking forward visit to Blaydon whatever team we put out.

I follow the Counties side pretty closely, and went to Belgium a couple of years back to cover their tour, and covered the fixture against Scotland, in Scotland, last year.

What was interesting was on that cold, wet night in Gala there wasn't a single RFU official to be seen - just the players, coaching staff, family and friends of the players and me.

I live tweeted that game from my own twitter account, and asked to do the same for the home game that was played at Blackheath - but was turned down. It's worth noting I took on the expense to go to Belgium and Scotland out of my own pocket and whereas the RFU don't owe me anything, my aim here is to give exposure to the team to the people that are interested - you folks. Two tweets a game on the official RFU twitter feed just won't cut it.

Anyway, I am heading to Birmingham tomorrow night after work to cover it, and have made some progress. Simon Legge, the assistant team manager, has kindly allowed me to cover the game from the Counties twitter feed, so there will be comprehensive coverage on there for all those interested. I got in touch with the Rugby Paper to offer a report, but they have declined.

My plan this summer is to provide a service to the County Championship, up and down the land, and hopefully follow the tour this summer, to wherever that is.

If anyone wants to talk to me about their county set-up, or has any interesting stories, please do give me a shout.

Please follow @EnglandCounties from 6.30pm tomorrow for full coverage.

Here it is:

I see that Nile Dacres is listed as a Devon player (and Plymouth, not sure what happened to the "Albion"), has he ever played for Devon? The same may apply to other players.

I am guessing it is county of birth, however Chris Brightwell born in New Zealand, so that's scuppered my idea.

Does the fact that coach of the team hosting this fixture doesn't want his players to play devalue it a bit?

Also fact that it is being played could affect relegation issues in National One just seems plain stupid. Its not the first time this has happened and it wont be the last but it needs looking at.

Excuse me I have not read that 'the coach of team hosting this fixture doesn't want his players to play........' Kevin Maggs is a players Manager and recognises the importance to the players  (and the DOR andClub)to be selected for representative rugby.

I have read however that Maggs is (quite rightly IMO) anxious that the game v Blaydon in the North East is being played when he has 5 starting line up players selected for the England team (one quarter of his first team  starters) Some weeks ago Maggs spoke to RFU to rearrange the Blaydon fixture for the next free Saturday though I hear that Blaydon have final say on the match date. His pleas fell on deaf ears but as Maggs said in the report I read words to the effect that Blaydon of course will be delighted at the fixture being played this Saturday to give them a better chance to win however their competitors towards the bottom of the league would see it as an unfair advantage to some degree. (Perhaps someone can confirm that I have it right here).

Don't get me wrong I, too, am proud of the inclusion of BHam Mose players in the starting squad tonight and hopefully that will boost the gate for their home ground fixture so we can't have it all ways.

An earlier contributor said very few RFU bodies attended the away Scotland fixture (if any) however we all know that RFU have reserved the Reddings Banqeting Hall at the ground as from half time.

I am, however quiite surprised that Hartpury have only two players in the total squad. To me it is a bit like Eddie J only selecting 2 players from the top 4 teams in the Premiership!! It would be devilish of me to beleive conspiracy reigns because I cannot think of one but it is strange nevertheless and I would not be the one on this board to start a theory!!

I'll be there...........will there be strains of Swing Low and Scotland the Brave as the evening progresses accompanied by some really good real ale  and the best Cornish pasties north of the Scilly Isles!!? Thats if you don't have a meal + match ticket deal!!

England Counties. Tries.Leo Fielding 2,Steven Leonard 2, James Stokes 1,Matthew Miles 1.
Joe Tarrant 4 conversions, James Williams 2 conversions.
Joe Tarrant 1 penalty.

Scottish Clubs. Tries. Jordan Edmunds 2, George Taylor 1, John Cox 1.
Chris Laidlaw 4 Conversions.

Entertaining game on a cold night with a breeze going down the slope. Fast paced throughout, plenty of commitment, tackling good. 14- 14 at half time.
I would estimate gate at around 500.
