What happened to the Counties matches that used to take place during the "free weekend" in February? Have these now been ditched by the RFU? There also used to be a match just before December, did this match take place last year?

I think that's a bit unfair. They know their elbow is to be bent when sipping their G&Ts and their hazelnut is for talking out of.

Ireland Clubs played Scottish Clubs on Friday night and the return game is in Scotland on March 16th.
Presumably because there aren't any other 6 Nations sides to play.
I'll bet the RFU's Gin and Tonic bill would have paid for the budget deficit.

That’s a real shame. Similar to the Bobsleigh people running out of money and the women’s team having to fund themselves. Should the England Counties start up a crowd funding page to pay for their matches?

Grassroots, Grassroots or to be precise all RFU spare cash seems to be on developing Plastic pitches
