I'd be surprised if Old Wassoconians couldn't put out a more creative pair than those we saw this afternoon.

What if the Hokey Kokey really IS what it's all about?

Awful wasnt it? A couple of great examples of how not to execute 4 on 2s when in great field position. That’s what u get when u consistently ignore the best players in those positions in the Prem...

This week, I would agree - far too much kicking, most of it poor, half-backs the main culprits but certainly not the only ones. Goal kicking wasn't much better either. |

England beat Wales in Wales !................I really enjoyed the game and was in awe of the defensive sets from both teams. Defences are getting better and better and virtually impenetrable. The kicking option is the proven percentage return on gaining territory. No team kicks more than the All Blacks.
The England opening 10 minutes saw some of the best ball retention I have seen only to have a so called charge down ( knocked forward in my book ) to allow Wales to score with a very doubtful grounding where the ball left his hand before being dabbed down. Stephen Jones Sunday times....... As the major stadiums prepare for the glorious return of the public they should install two dispensers at every entrance — one with the hand sanitiser, the other with the best embrocation for pains in the neck. What was once known as the handling code has become a ghastly aerial ping-pong, and the strain on the neck muscles of followers as they crane to follow the ball has become intense. |

Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.

And the problems continued last we v France.
Surely Eng could have used one of their repertoire of 3/4 moves rather than trying to drive head first into the defensive line ( SEE ALSO MY POST ON CLASS ACTION )- did anybody else wince at the punishment taken by those close to the try line? Also what is it with Elliot Daly ? He's quick and has a huge boot but when he fields a kick in the backfield he appears to lack focus- he shuffles and then runs straight into contact with no ground having been made. Also last week when he did have an opportunity to create a try he failed to straighten up and apply the gas before giving a fairly average pass to the man outside. I've lost touch with the identity of Eng's attack coach but he isn't achieving much! Sean Edwards has achieved plenty with France though.

I'm afraid Saturday was just "dirge" Full stop! We now have players selected at 9,10 and 12 who's first instinct (or is it instructions from up high) is to kick and Slade's not averse either
Box kick bingo was replaced to some extent on Saturday by kick tennis. Is this what they practice on the training ground - hoof it up in the air or let's see who can kick it the furthest? I've no objection to teams playing a kicking game so long as its a good kicking game. Whats being served up is just aimless, pointless (can't think what else to do) kicking. George Ford has gone on record saying he didn't think it was putting spectators off - clearly he didn't hear the booing that echoed round Twickenham when this tactic (if you can call it that) was employed. I honestly think it would have done England good if they had lost to France B on Saturday and conceded some typical French flair tries in the process. They absolutely will NOT win a World Cup ever playing in that way
