It's official now Freeman Payne has now left Waterloo and where has he gone? Surprise surprise Birkenhead Park wth all the other Waterloo players. He gives his reasons as lack of communication between the board and players and the late recruitment of a DoR and a plan for next season (ie this forthcoming season). Sounds familiar.

So we have no experienced front row at this level, virtually no second row (2 at the last count) virtually no back row and a smattering of backs. I only hope Steve Moore has the capacity to work miracles.

Does anyone have the phone numbers of the players from 10/15 years ago? That could be our only option. Oh to have Buckton on the flank, the late Nick Allot in the second row, Holt or Hackett at hooker, Saverimutto at scrum half, Handley or Aitchison at 10, Northey, Coast, Woof and Mullins in the backs. These  are only a few names, the list is endless.

All the talent that has passed through the club how did we get it so spectaculrly wrong??

Oh how I'm looking forward to this season!!!!!!

Mighty Pen, to be fair to Saverimutto, Northey and possibly Aitchison they did not play for the club during the "professional years". Although Aitchison was paid for coaching duties I believe.

I wonder where the ginger warrior Stuart Beeley is these days, what a good no.8 he was. However, I did  hear he had a medical problem that meant he couldn't play anymore.

This season will be interesting for Waterloo, I only hope we pull ourselves out of the rubbish were in! I believe Steve Moore has the right lines set up to organise the troops. Guess it now depends on the public who have signed up for mywaterloorugby, to choose the best team possible, instead of an 'okish' team that full of people they know.

Steve should make the following signings:-

1. Bart Pilecki
2. Paul Hackett
3.Mark Beckett
4.Ben Kay
5.Louis McGowan
6.Ceri Thomas
7.Peter Buckton
8.Mark OShaunessy
9.Wayne Morris
10.Ian Aitcheson or Lyndon Griffiths
11.Phil "T" Graham
12.Mike Mullins
13.Nigel Hill
14.Gary Monaghan
15.Jeff Tickle

That would be the team that may secure a top 3 position even now of players who largely wanted to play for the club/shirt!!!

Mighty pen what is your obsession with the payment of players?! Has the professional era by-passed you completely? Or has a recent transaction left you bitter?

Going back  35 years I know of players in the North West who collected a regular brown envelope for their  duties.
No problem with players being paid whatsover.Point I badly made was that Waterloo's wage bill was  vast ten years ago even by 2009 standards.

Axeman

Yes Andy Northey is backs coach at Macclesfield, a fantastic player in his prime in both codes, fierce competitor both on the field and in the changing room and an utter nightmare to travel back with after losing a game on the road, (bad loser).

Good luck to him and Macc next season

All the best

ST

Give him one with handles on

4. Harrington is returning this season
9. Anderson is waiting to see what players DOR brings in before making his decison - currently training with loo
10. Reeves is returning

I know a few others players have returned from University and are eager to player this season. I think the major issue is the front row as they are so hard to come by these days!2 decent hookers in Rylands and Gibney but NO props.

Still doesnt look good but I think its important for us to get behind the guys and give the new DOR a little time.

With respect, particularly as they are still relatively young, Rylands and Gibney are second team players if we want to be competitive at this level.

With respect Rumble, i disagree. Rylands may not be up to first team due to lack of experience but Gibney certainly is. He has been a regular at Preston and West Park at this level for a few seasons but chose to come back to loo as it is his club.

Gibney made two league appearances in 2003/4 for 'Hoppers.

Also came off the bench a couple of times during the same season, in Lancashire Cup matches I think.

I stand to be corrected, but think he came through the Preston Grasshoppers Mini, Juniors and Colts sections?
