I know most people didn't even begin to get excited about the new Championship Cup but now the final is here I hope as many Rolling Maulers as possible can come along. It is after all the play off final that many of us would have savoured, hopefully it will be a fitting finale to the season.

The top two teams in the Championship league 2018/19. An extra week of Rugby and hopefully Ealing Trailfinders to retain the Championship Cup.

There is a problem of selection. Certain players are cup tied due to not playing in the earlier rounds.

I can not find the rules / regulations but it effects both teams.

Yes the big losses for Irish are Keatley and the two Fijian lads, all of whom signed after the pool stages.

Harry Casson (Ealing starting 5) cleared by a disciplinary panel to play this weekend. Slightly surprised the red was rescinded, but pleased. Must have looked very different under slo-mo.

The yellow card given to the London Irish player for shoulder barging our players head should have been red card instead of just a yellow.

I always felt the red card was harsh. I can see why it was given - player lifted over the shoulder and lands on his head. However, it was the LI player who entered the maul from the side and tried to lift Casson out. All the ET player has done is transferred his weight to his other leg and dropped his hips - classic judo move. The LI player’s own strength and momentum has completed the ‘throw’. Moral of the story? Don’t start what you can’t finish.
PS: mild sarcasm withstanding, very pleased no one was hurt as a result.

I really hope Ealing Trailfinders give a better account of themselves during the final. I believe they will and some key players will make the difference to the Ealing performance. Although I am not sure who exactly is `cup tied` . I assume the teams will be named very shortly for both teams.

Last Saturday London Irish were the better team by far in my opinion. They seemed so much sharper in defence and quicker to the ball. Ealing lost the ball in contact several times. Normally and in most games they very rarely lose the ball.

It will largely be two different teams this Saturday.

Ealing have the greater need on this occasion which, with home advantage, I feel might just see them over the line.

It could be a very close affair.

Should be a fascinating contest. Keatley at 10 has added much more pace to our game, along with the two Fijians mentioned earlier who, after a slow start, have added real pace and dynamism in the back row and back three. We didn't manage to do the double last time, so if we did it would be the icing on the cake. However, the main job has been done so I wouldn't begrudge Ealing some end of season silverware.

Ealing Trailfinders team to play London Irish in the Championship Cup Final on Saturday 4th May at Trailfinders Sports Club: Great selection. A shame that Lewis Jones is injured, and Andrew Durutalo is suspended, but otherwise this is almost ideal from my point of view. David Johnston works much better as a centre than a wing in my view - I might swap him out for Harry Sloane, but he's had some knocks. Great to see Jordy Reid back and fit, he'll add a lot to defensive efforts. YEAAAALING!

15 Will Harries 14 Seb Stegmann 13 David Johnston 12 Pat Howard 11 James Cordy Redden10 Craig Willis 9 Jordan Burns 1 Jordan Els 2 Alun Walker 3 Elliot Millar Mills 4 Sam Dickinson 5 Harry Casson 6 Kieran Murphy 7 Jordy Reid 8 Rayn Smid (c)

Replacements:

16 Matt Cornish 17 Jack O’Connell 18 Ben Betts 19 Ben Landry 20 Harry Sloan 21 Ryan Foley 22 Laurence May

LI Team. First choice barring injury (Meehan and Stephenson) and the cup tied lads (Veitokani, Tuisui and Keatley). Slightly surprised that Fainga'a gets the nod over Porecki

London Irish: 15 Luke McLean, 14 Ben Loader, 13 Fergus Mulchrone, 12 Terrence Hepetema, 11 Matt Williams, 10 Stephen Myler, 9 Scott Steele, 1 Gordon Reid, Saia Fainga’a, 3 Ollie Hoskins, 4 Franco van der Merwe, 5 Josh McNally ©, 6 Jake Schatz, 7 TJ Ioane, 8 Ofisa Treviranus

Replacements: 16 David Porecki, 17 Patric Cilliers, 18 Barney Maddison, 19 Matt Rogerson, 20 Brendan McKibbin, 21 Jacob Atkins, 22 Brendan Macken

Could be wrong, but think Porecki may have a knock.
