The ERC have pulled off a dramatic U-turn and have launched a probe into an allegation of strawberrying in the Tigers game. Huge controversy followed the match with questioning of the competence of the match officials. Complaints were received that an unfair advantage had been gained from the "bending" of the rules. Having previously announced the result would stand, the ERC have finally succumbed to huge pressure from angry fans and officials. The replay between Leicester and Munster will take place as soon as possible. Neil Back was said to be devastated. "I just can't understand...etc, etc."

Short memories Tigers! Perhaps previously misdemeanours should be remembered before taking the moral high ground!

There is a clear difference between the two. I am just unclear what it is.

I think it's ridiculous that Lee Byrne could be suspended for his part in this. I don't want to do down match officials but they are responsible for the game being administered properly.

My frustration is with the touch judges and their so called role as assistant referees. They seem to miss a lot of noticable infringements that are right in front of their noses but have a good grasp of the unimportant (usually to stop play to get their faces on the TV in big games) and now we have issues like this.

Where was the fourth official in all this? Specialist touch judges are needed in the same way proper linesmen (assistant referees) are used in football.

I have not seen the incident in any shape or form - just coming back from holiday last Sunday.

From what I have read this certainly seems harsh on Lee Byrne - and Wales come to that. I suppose someone has to carry the can, but I am not sure he should be that person.

and Leicester bring in a lawyer with expertise in sport legalese to state their case.  This is getting bonkers. Now they've discovered Januarie might not be eligible to play in this country (work permit problem?) so they might get the match one way or another.  Worms, can of.....

....and now we're told Leicester were not entitled to be legally represented at the Byrne hearing.  The RFU should now suspend themselves and ban all Leicester players from international for a week!
[and I don't care that it had nothing to do with the RFU - Leicester come under their jurisdiction, well almost, so that's good enough.]

Told you! Wheeler, Tom and the rest of the Leicester board just cannot accept that they're out of the HEC - and apparently they've found something else to moan about.  But how come Ospreys out of all those being investigated are the only ones named? Ans - because they're the ones who played Leicester.  The game's moral guardian (how appropriate they leaked to the said organ) is determined to get his money's worth out of the legal people ain't he?
