According to the Otley website and the local press, Howard Parr has ruled himself out this season for Otley.

He is an RAF Officer and has professional commitments which prevent him from travelling 400 miles north twice weekly to train and play. He will still play locally, work permitting.

He has been good for Otley, but at 38 years old, 80 minutes and 800 miles each week ain't what it used to be. he picked up a niggling knee injury at the end of last season and hasn't been actively involved in the pre season.

He will fill the gap in Iraq left by the retreating Americans !

A twist on the Club v Country debate.

Good luck, Howard, a good player and a nice bloke.

A great and inspiration leader, will be sorely missed in the game.  The sooner he returns to the Otley ranks the better.

May have been mentioned before - apologies if so - The Argus reports that Worthing have signed Scrum half Stuart Pearman from Ruislip and Finlay Huckleberryon-Smith (flanker) from Newbury.

Clifton include a number of their new signings at Canterbury tomorrow.

They include dual Bristol/Clifton registrations Chris Ashwin (outside half or centre) and George Watkins (wing); centre James Stark (Bridgwater); prop Dan Howick (Cleve); hooker Paul Finken (Newbury); lock Duncan Kelly (Cinderford) and back-row Ben Purcell (former Bridgwater captain).

Finlay HuckleberryON Smith. By the way.. Good dynamic muscular player. Played for Newbury last season predominatly as a flanker but also as a centre and winger.

Nice to see ex Newbury players popping up everywhere else.....

Howard Parr Signs for Hawks

We are delighted to announce that Howard Parr  has agreed to join the Hawks.

Howard did a superb job of leading Otley to Nat 1 safety at the end of last year, and his performances for Otley,  the RAF, and Combined Services will be well known to supporters of rugby in the National leagues.

His previous clubs included Orrell, Bedford and Rotherham, in addition to the Barbarians.

Mike Poulson Chairman of Playing : “We are absolutely delighted to welcome a guy of Howard’s quality to Henley. He will add his considerable ability and experience to our exciting squad of players  as we build towards our goal of regaining our place in National One. Our success in the past has always been built around a squad of quality players and quality individuals, and we know Howard fits both those categories and more. We expect him to be available for his first game this coming weekend. “

Nick.
