I'd agree Makkem! Seeing another international playing against the mighty 'Toe' will be great for the home fans. I think that JR will increase all the gates around N2N!
Im guessing that Fylde are on the hunt for promotion this year then!! It will be interesting to see how many try's JR get's this season?? Any thoughts?

Sut Mae....

I can tell you all where the money is coming from in one short sentence.....

The Ospreys.... your proud new owners....

You will also soon be having 3 or 4 of our players on loan to help with their improvement/development...

But the BIG news is that you will be getting the services of one Gavin Henson and Duncan Jones till December from what ive heard from a friend who is an Ospreys squad player...Both are almost back to full fitness but need match time especially Gavin having had the last year or so away from the game...

Good luck next season lads... We will be watching our investment...

I'd treat that post with a large shovelful of salt.

It was made by a non-registered user and so far has turned out to be a steaming great pile of doggy-doo-doo.

I've not seen, or heard, anyone from the Ospreys at Old Deer Park so far. We've taken a hooker on loan and that's that. We've had more loan players from the Dragons than the Ospreys.

With a combination of Brian Ashton and JR Fylde should be a free scoring side.  Of course they have to win the ball first and the Westoe pack (and others in the league) are good at that.  There will also be a lot less kicking out of hand (yippee) against Fylde and sides will double team JR as a matter of course (the cliche here is that will free up other attackers of course) but if JR isn't the leading try scorer next season then I think everyone (especially Hon Treasurers) will be disappointed.
JR will also be wondering whether tackles hurt as much at level 4 as they did at level 1.

@Eel. Or not as the case may be.

There seems to be a fair amount of "hedging one's bets" amongst the players this season. I'm certainly aware of Championship clubs looking at "confirmed" N1 players and it seems similar events are taking place all over the leagues.

Then full time pro with London Irish. Last season on loan at Moseley.  Also signed dual reggers - Joe Launchberry, Wasps lock, on loan to Worthing last season; Christian Wade, winger Wasps, England under 20s and Sevens; Jonah Holme, Scrum half, Wasps; Mark Atkinson, OH/Centre, wasps; Alex Fan, flanker, Wasps.

R&B Pear,
It was a perfectly innocent question! I was merely enquiring if there had been any players since Bill Beaumont, who had represented England or any other national side, whilst playing for Fylde. Read into this whatever interpretation your small suspicious mind puts on it.

Alfred, it wasn't a query, it was a question and it certainly had more relevance than your response.

Joemac

It did not come across as "simply a question"!! It certainly did appear to be disparaging in spite of your statement to the contrary!

Has any team outside the Premiership produced an England player for over a decade? No cos the RFU rightly or wrongly have decided that only players that are full time professionals will be considered. However, we have had numerous England Counties players and indeed have Nick Royle in the England 7's Commonwealth Games training squad following a successful World Series. Jason and Brian can only help bring on promising and talented young players to emulate the greats that have graced the Woodlands in the past.

Shaun Perry was playing for Bristol in the Prem when selected for England.  I can't remember any non-top flight (and not just the English top tier) players playing for the England 1st XV for ages.  Sevens is a different matter, of course.

Well, you wouldn't get many Prem teams releasing players for 7s would you, not with out a big money compensation scheme like they get for full internationals - why do you think the 7s players mostly come from the Championship?

I think a fairer question would be to ask which England players did not go through the academy scheme which would then allow us to see how many are late developers or slip through the net. Didn't David Strettle come through Rotherham?

Taunton's high flying Winger 'Charlie Walker-Blair' has signed a dual-registration with Exeter Chiefs as reported in this mornings 'Western Daily Press'.  Our DOR expects Charlie to continue playing for us on Saturdays.....

Surely some Northampton players have this claim to fame recently.

There have been some Scottish internationals from the second tier - didn't Hugo Southwell play for them whilst Wuss were in that league?

Steady...........we'll be moving on to Canadian internationals shortly Wink - long list of them from C'ship & NL1!
Our Colts even had a current/full Hungarian international, and our amateur side an Italian rugby league full/current international.

i bet there's a few more internationals claims to fame out there!

To be slightly pedantic, are we talking about clubs below the Premiership PRODUCING England players [who were capped when coming to the selectors' attention via Premiership clubs] or players picked whilst still at Championship clubs?

Strettle is an obvious example, plus the likes of Will James playing for both Albion and Pirates in the Championship [3/4 seasons] before signing for Glaws and being picked for Wales.
From memory Perry went to Briz via Dudley Kingswinford and Coventry [relatively late in his career] so he's in no way a product of the Academy system either.

Plenty of South Seas internationals to add to the Canadians as well.........

When Barking first appeared in National 2 a few years ago we had the distinction of having the only player in the league to have scored against England at Twickenham in ex-Italian international Corrado Pilat - and in his first home game for Barking against Manchester he kicked a club record eight penalties in the game.
