3milestonePirate, where do you get this from?? The inference is that "only" 2/3 of the first XV are leaving, but that it is clearly rubbish.
Only Ireland , and potentially Brits or Franklin at tight head, could be classified as first choice[although it's disappointing to read of some of the departures]

What is clearly rubbish - You have just agreed with me.

Ireland + Brits and/or Franklin = 2 or 3. Try reading before replying.LOL

From the Sheffield Tigers website

" Tigers Already Preparing for Next Season says Tigers Director of Rugby, Richard Senior. He is pleased to announce the recruitment of Gregor Hayter as head coach for the coming season. Gregor is a 2nd row and has been playing at Rotherham Titans in the Championship. He has previously played for Glasgow, Newbury, England Counties and Scotland U18 & U21. Gregor will head up a new coaching team for next season which will be announced shortly.
Andy Barnes who has also been playing at Rotherham Titans is also returning to be part of this new team. It is fantastic news for the club that two Championship players will be playing at Tigers next season.
We have some more additions to make over the coming weeks but we are moving forward with some excellent player coaches.
Gregor will bring much experience to the club and will fit in very well and, with the Tigers crowd favourite Barnsey coming back as well, things are starting to look good for next season."

New Signings - Yapp & Luff - 02/05/2010

Taunton RFC has the great pleasure of announcing Tony Yapp and Jason Luff as the first two new signings for the 2010-11 season.

Tony Yapp is a quality 32 year old fly half who comes to Taunton via Launceston RFC where he has been instrumental in their marvellous league achievements this past season.

Tony’s previous experience includes Premiership and Championship level rugby, with appearances for Worcester Warriors, Bedford Blues, Exeter Chiefs, as well as 3 appearances for the Barbarians and the 1999-2000 England A squad.

Jason Luff is a very potent try scoring winger and, at 26 years old, very much in his prime. Jason also arrives at Hyde Park via Launceston, where he has been ever present in a very potent backs division scoring 11 tries this term. Jason’s previous clubs include Exeter Chiefs, Plymouth Albion, and numerous appearances for the Devon County side.

Tony and Jason are two top quality players with massive amounts of Championship expertise to their names. I would like to formally welcome both of them to Hyde Park, and know they will bring a professional edge to Taunton's Rugby progression.

These two acquisitions are the first of a number of exciting new players heading to Taunton RFC for the coming season, and are a sign of this club’s growing ambitions.

We at Taunton RFC knew we had to strengthen in many areas to be in a position to compete next season, and these two new signings will undoubtedly add some further class to an already solid and competent squad.

Warm Regards,

According to the local Sunday Independent Taunton were offering two year contracts which Lanson couldn't match.  With stories of a tie up between Exe and Taunton as well things are looking up in Somerset.

That's several departures now from Rotherham, with Whitehead and Prescott previously announced. What's occurring does anyone know?

It's the usual departure of our top players to better offers and squad players not being offered new contracts.

Key players leaving:
Prescott to Nottingham
Whitehead to Esher
Tinus Du Plessis back to Namibia
Ross Batty and Kleeberger have full time offers (deservedly)
Maggs will almost certainly leave when Bester signs up as coach, as he applied for the role as well.
John Feeley rumoured to be on the move as well.
I think PJ Gidlow has a full time offer as well.

Barnes, Hayter and Skurr were squad players, Barnsey is the most surprising departure given he's a bit younger.

We've taken Joe Bedford back from Leeds and I believe we were keen on some more of their fringe/younger players, however I suspect that with Bester seemingly on the way back our new recruits may have a more Irish/South African feel to them.

Rumour is that Bester has already tapped up a lot of top irish players and there may be players released by premiership clubs joining roth too.

not confirmed by club, but chairman has said in the media he should sign in the next 24 hours.... He is a force of nature and a one off, lets hope he can direct all of those qualities in the right direction.

I do not know if this is true but i see to remember seeing on the Bedford Blues forum that we had signed PJ Gidlow from Roth according to the Rugby Times. Is there any truth in this?

you were linked with him, he's a solid player... but thats it, certainly wouldn't see him improving bedford's team.

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that eight of the current first team squad have signed new deals to remain at Goldington Road.

Director of rugby Mike Rayer has announced that Ollie Dodge, Ian Vass, Mike Howard, Paul Tupai along with prop duo Sam Walsh and Dan Seal have all put pen-to-paper on contract extensions.

Scrum half Will Chudley and winger Duncan Taylor have also agreed to extend their stay with the Blues by signing two year deals with the club.

Rayer said: “It is great news that this core group of players have all agreed to stay at the club. Dan Seal came to us from Birmingham & Solihull and he has truly earned himself a new deal.

“Vassy, Ollie, Mike, Sam and Toops have continued to show their worth throughout the year and the two youngsters have really emerged as individuals over the year and it is fantastic that they will continue their progression with us.

“Everybody knows that times have been tough for many businesses around the country and we as a rugby club are no different. Players know that the purse strings have had to be pulled and I am thrilled that so many will be staying with us.

“I am also pleased to say that more signings will be imminent.

“Of course not all of this squad will be here next season and for those who will be leaving, I and everyone associated with the club, wish them the very best for the future.

“We have offered Luke Fielden a new deal, but he has decided to turn it down in the hope of securing Premiership rugby next season which his agent has guaranteed him. It is disappointing news, but I understand Luke’s reasons and hope he achieves his ambition.”

Another player who is leaving Goldington Road is Ireland Under-19 international and Bedford Blues Colt player Corey HirHuckleberry who has been offered a deal with Munster.

Rayer said: “We had hoped that Corey would stay with us on a development contract, but when a club like Munster comes calling it is very hard to turn that down and everyone wishes him well.”

I wouldn't have thought Fielden was Premiership standard TBH; Blues had more dangerous backs than him based on their [several ] games against us.
Any local thoughts?

I think Luke Fielden is our best back and I think he is only something like 24. However, he was only playing for Cambridge last year and, like Billy Twelvetrees last year, I think would have benefitted from another year of 1st team rugby. Certainly has enough talent for GP, but a year too soon methinks.

Also, its Corey Hir c o c k, shame as I think he was by some distance our best colt from what I saw.

Luke played for Newcastle Falcons in 2007 when at Uni - and was in their Middlesex 7s winning team that year.

I suspect another year at Bedford would be useful but to who - the club or the player? Agents are agents and Luke has ambition.

Luke was our star back last season - even though the wings ran in the tries - and for the first half of the season we missed the options he opened up.

I am sure he will do well wherever he plays next season - but whether he is quite ready for regular Premiership first team appearances is something we will find out.  But he will certainly benefit from the support and training regime a big club can offer.

Best of luck to him - as to every other player.

We felt much the same about the way that Josh Drauniniu jumped ship last season to rush off to Quins where he has been conspicuous by his absence this year.  The irony is that, should we get promoted, he could find himself sitting on the bench at best, whilst he watches his erstwhile teammates sharing the pitch with his new employers, (note I don't say anything about competiing, let alone winning, just sharing the pitch)Big smile

BBC Confirms - "Moseley lock Aly Muldowney heads for Glasgow"

Unhappy

Good luck to him, Glasgow have got themselves a very good player. I know it was probably only a matter of time, but I wish we could have kept him for another season.
