John Doe played for Old Dunelmians before emigrating to USA and representing his country. Sadly died at Pearl Harbor.

ex LW site -
'London Welsh Head Coach Phil Greening is delighted to get the signature of American Eagle prop Shawn Pittman. Pittman, 22 years old and 6'4", has played for the USA six times including the recent Churchill Cup, and comes to Old Deer Park from Bayfield Sharks. He also represented the USA at Under 19 and Under 20 level. '
Sounds like he's just collected his autograph but apparently he's another addition to the already formidable front row.

Given his background and name, I take it he'll be a bald Eagle

He was moving between Tigers and Nottm when he got capped as a DR player having previously played at Bedford, but only SL would raise him as a possible.  We use DR but we're not that daft!  Wink

No, it was well after that. It was the days when Coventry were struggling to attempt to make it to the top tier, and a Chairman spent money he didn't have to make it to the play-offs twice. It was the second season of that, that opened up the club to the one-man control that the last two chairman to leave the club both abused.

The only real change between then and last season, was that in those days the RFU had a method of determining promotion and relegation that depended on league positions, determining play-offs between the bottom of one division, and the top of the next one.

Yeah - and Ross Kemp played for Brentwood
Nigel Barden, gastronome of the Chris Evans radio show, used to play for Otley.

Mark Greatbatch (former NZ cricket captain)'s brother once played for Otley - the lessons being never assume that someone from NZ can play rugby.

John Inverdale played for Esher and Matthew Pinsent played for Henley 3rds, I believe.

Hex – That was a bit below the belt. Wink

I’m sure the good folk of Tynedale will provide Coventry with an interesting welcome to NL1 rugby on the 4th.

Back on subject - Any news on Tynedale signings for next season?  All very quite up in Corbridge or is this a reflection of the alleged lack of finances?

Watch Out - The Scottish Phoenix Club is on the Up!!

ES, it's more a case of who turns up to preseason training. Our seconds had a stellar season last year and there are loads of youngsters pushing to make the break through, but if we go according to previous seasons, you will see an article in the Hexham Courant during the preseason games detailing any new acquisitions. I would imagine there will be one or two, probably from local clubs further down the league pyramid. And we will be hoping that Joe Graham's career at Falcons doesn't take off too soon and that he is available from time to time. The other source of new players is the local universities

Solva, Worthing now have the best hooker in N2S.

Strong, skillful, mobile, great hands. A brilliant player, great lad (ask the Cambs boys) and a wonderful asset. Best of luck.

Jason and Brian can only help bring on promising and talented young players to emulate the greats that have graced the Woodlands in the past.
I beleive Courtney lawes was a member of bedfords academy before joining northamptons
And an england under 18 jamie elliot came throught the bedford ranks before moving to northampton (I know as I played alongside him)
Chris ashton joined northampton while they were in ND1
And there was a prop for england who had joined a prem club from a champ club the season before but I cant remember who.

Re the Scottish internationals from our division. The Worcester one was Ben Hinshelwood who played in the 2003 world cup ( He was really an aussie but I think he tried haggis once)

Henry staff, Sam Stanley and Jared Saunders dual registered between Saracens and Barking.

Bedford Blues and Saracens have confirmed that seven English Academy players will be joining the Goldington Road club on dual registration for the coming 2010/11 Championship season.

The Blues will be welcoming back the likes of James Short, Owen Farrell, Jake Sharp, George Kruis and Will Fraser, while also welcoming promising youngsters Luke Baldwin and Jackson Wray.

These are all young England age group players who are not yet ready for the Premiership. I presume this is going on all over the country?

No it isn't. And in the areas where it isn't going on, there is vigorous disagreement about the ethics of the practice. Surely only a coincidence however

Well it could certainly be construed as a significant advantage for Bedford to have a call on these players where their rivals do not. I presume it sidesteps any salary cap issue for Bedford as they are not paying their wages....hardly a level playing field.

Craig Ratford moving from Barking (part time) to London Scottish on a full time contract. Both clubs in ND1...may add some spice to their game in a few weeks.

According to Bedfords supporters they won't be getting any game time anyway. All seems a little pointless.

Well that was certainly the case last season. If you are in Bedford's shoes, why (except in extremis) would you want to rely on players who can be removed from your squad at a moments notice (rhetorical).

Christian Lewis-Pratt going to Doncaster on season long loan from Leeds. Saw him at the Premiership academy 7's in April. He looks like he may be the real deal.
