Lending machine, Squadron Leader? Well, yes, we did lend players to 3 Premiership Clubs last season to enable their A League teams to play. "Lending" and DR don't apply where we arrange for a player to train full-time with a Premiership Club since the bulk of our players will be part-time!

I look forward to verbal tussles with you on this issueLOL as the season develops. We have a policy of long loans only, not game-by-game relationships like others you have been naming ...

halibut, I think that your home games against scottish and stourbridge both featured short term loans, in fact I think, IIRC, that one of the props against Scottish was drafted in for the day because I recall discussing it with a Counties selector

Be careful, your rose tinted specs might hide the gaping hole you walk so close to

Champion - sorry, but checking the website the props that played in those 4 matches were Tunnicliff, Warren Millard and Marler. The first 3 are Esher players, the fourth a season-long d/r. Glasses have cleared and I can't see the hole!

I hope the ex Pirates legend Vili Ma'asi is not going to be dual registered with Bedford; it would be sacrilege to see him in a Blues shirt[or anyone else's...]

From the Knights web site

Doncaster Knights announce their first new signing for the 2010-2011 RFU Championship season as 25 year old Matt Challinor, moving across South Yorkshire from Rotherham Titans

Bryn Griffiths and Tom Davies are both leaving to join Cardiff Blues and we have agreed to release Nicky Griffiths to join Magner's League side Newport Gwent Dragons.

Night and day, not 100% sure that signing is confirmed, Rotherham advertiser is saying tomorrow that he's agreed a deal with roth. He's a decent player, but has been offered a very lucrative contract with Donny so if he does join Donny good luck to him.

Can't imagine a South Yorkshire club would announce anything officially that hadn't been signed, witnessed and has financial consequences for breaking...therefore I reckon he's a Donny player next year.

I'd say he's a bit more than a decent player who would be a very good building block for us if he'd stayed.

Good luck to Matt though, it's a finite career, so I hope he's got a great deal which will cushion the blow of two beatings against Roth next year ;)

rtid,

normal process at Donny is that announcements are only made after it's signed sealed and the player is happy for it to go public. I would buy a round if it's not genuine.

Nice to see the tradition of nicking your players is continuing

I read that Donny are staying full time but that the players who stay have to agree to a salary cut. Their budget being cut from £1.6m to £0.9m I think I heard.

Adam Faulkner leaves Newport (Salop).

Seems I'll be following the efforts of Leeds Met Carnegie University and Wharfedale from September, since he starts his degree there, and will be joining the club side for the next four seasons.  Not sure of the set up at Wharfedale, but hopefully he'll enjoy his time there and may catch someone's eye.

With Newport only using either wing for a defensive role this season, which is obvious (both Newport second-rows have scored more tries than any Newport winger this season!), and with the changes to the Coaching Regime at Newport being regarded by him as being a negative move, planned to start pre-season and carry on throughout; he will be undertaking pre-season training with local rivals Whitchurch RFC, before moving to Yorkshire.  Adam says he can count the number of attacking passes he's received from the Outside Centre this season in single figures.

Strangely enough, he's still scored tries in a limited number of Representative games this season, both for North Midlands U20 and Shropshire Colts (who won the Houghton-Harries Shield, beating Greater Birmingham on Wednesday at Moseley RFC), whilst he has also played for the Shropshire Senior Side as first choice left wing in the North Midlands RLF Championship in the last couple of weeks with the RLF Final against Worcestershire & Herefordshire taking place on Tuesday evening at Stourbridge RFC.

Lets just leave it at that, because some selections have been very strange at Newport this season.

However, I'll offer up this to back up my thoughts; Former National 2 Winger Dan Duggan, decided to leave Newport before Christmas, citing a lack of ball to either wing.
There's always next week...

A very warm welcome awaits you in the Yorkshire Dales, Adam.

We're a very friendly club, the envy of most at this level in the country, and try to play an expansive game so plenty of ball seen by the outside backs.

You'll love it.

Director of Rugby Bob Crooks announces that Handre Schmidt is leaving us to join Bedford next season. However the good news is that coming in the opposite direction is young three-quarter James Knight.

20 of last season's Cambridge squad have re-signed, with two more talking terms. Good foundation for next year as we ended with 23 in the squad

Any Blues comments on Knight?

A bit out of his depth in this league tbh but I am sure will be successful for Cammbridge. Good strong runner, had a spell with you lot last year where I believed he bagged himself a few tries. How good is Schmidt? The next Luke Fielden?

Handre is an absolute try machine. Scored 30 this season and outscored all the highly fancied try scorers in Nat 1 by a mile.

Of one thing you can be sure, he wont let you down!

HITR,
here's hoping you can unlock the potential, as many of us think it's there but can't quite work out what it is that Chin (James Knight, you'll see why!) needs, to get him unleashed! It might be another unfair swap I suspect...but, he's a joy to be around, thoroughly nice bloke! And for that reason, will be missed in Bedford!Ermm

Looking forward to having him back.  Is Knighty a "utility" back these days or strictly a centre?

Handre scored four trys in the last game of the season. The last two with a sore hamstring. It didnt seem to slow him down. As FL said hes a lovely bloke too. Talent, good looks, and a nice guy. Hateful

Bedford Blues have continued their building for the 2010/11 season and are pleased to announce the signing of Exeter Chief lock Sean Tomes.

The 25-year-old is the son of Scotland international Alan Tomes and has previously played for Newport Gwent Dragons and Newcastle Falcons while also spending time on loan at Doncaster during the 2007-8 season.

Standing at six foot six inches tall and weighing in at 120kg, Tomes is certain to make a huge impression in the Blues pack.

Speaking about the signing, director of rugby Mike Rayer said: “Sean has plenty of experience in the Premiership, Magners League and the Championship and I’m delighted that he has agreed to make the move to Goldington Road.

“It is important that we identified areas that needed strengthening and we hope Sean will have a massive impact on the squad.”

Rayer also confirmed that four more players have agreed to extend their stay at with the club. Captain and hooker Dan Richmond, fellow number two Chris Locke, scrum half and backs coach Nick Walshe and number nine Darryl Veenendaal are all set to remain at the club.

Rayer added: “We have now secured the services of 20 of the current squad and that’s very pleasing. There is still plenty of work to do however, and we are working hard behind the scenes to bring as much quality into the club as possible.”

The Navy? Probably had to with all these stringent defence cuts in the offing.... and we all know Josh's defence isn't upto much Wink
