So it sounds as if Nottingham and Donny will be weaker than this year.  Anybody else got any opinions on whether the announced changes have strengthened or weakened their sides?  It was said that with the recession and the French salary cap the standard in level 2 was likely to go up.  So far there seems little evidence to support that theory. Pirates incomers are largely academy players and a couple from Albion.  Welsh have recruited Drauniniu who will be a thorn in most championship sides,  but Worcester seem to be losing rather than retaining players.  No confirmed signings at Exe though Davies (ex-Bath) would be good if true.

I know it's early days but the signs aren't exactly promising unless a lot haven't been announced on here.  Any views?

To be honest, we don't really know what we will be like. Glenn, I'm sure, will have something up his sleeve but we won't know what until the club announces it!

I take the point entirely but was thinking more of what the effects are of the announced changes, there's usually one or more "dark horses" who emerge during a season, in our case Bryan Rennie's fluorescence as a 12 and Simon Alcott's breathrough to second choice hooker this year.  These are the sort of "added value" which aren't obvious on paper.  Delaney is, of course, the exemplar of this skill.

All unsubstantiated rumours, started by an unregistered poster.  Are we really letting three props and four hookers go?  But, to be fair, a few of those guys would be expected to be a bit fed-up wih the amount of rugby they've played this season.

Tbh, those are more or less the names I was expecting, except for losing all of our hookers Shocked. It depends what we have to make room for, perhaps there's a hooker factory powering up in Ospreylia?

I'm quite happy that the list doesn't contain more names. Although I suspect there may be a few more to add, a quick search of youtube comes up with another player's showreel...

The factory needs a lot of powering up then...in fact a whole front row production line could be required.

I'd be surprised at Dorian going. He's still a resident of these parts and has a baby on the way.

Moseley always seem to be quite late in making announcements.  Thus far we've lost a lock who I'm sure would make it into almost any championship 1st XV and a promising 8: no inbound news to date. The talk from the club was of retaining the majority of the squad and strengthening in the key problem areas identified last season. If the trend Exeforever has identified proves correct and we make a few key quality siginngs I would expect us to be very competative next term

Pirates have let 13 go but only 2 or 3 are genuinely viewed as big losses, including 2 props, Brits off to Brizzle and Scott Franklin probably to France to pursue his World Cup goals.
The players signed so far include 3 England Student/age group players ,2 of Albion's best and Nimmo from Nottingham, so looks pretty promising.
And in terms of emerging talent, Rob Cook has gone from Nat 3 to bvecome Player of the Season so perhaps Saint Glenn is not the only talent spotter around......

two of albions best, agreed thats true, they have now indicated though they have no loyalty due to pirates not being a forward move but sideways so they have left from what my sources tell me for purely financial gains even though the deals offered at brickfields were for championship standards very competitive. so dont be suprised if they bail after a season or two for another club.

Redski,
It could also be that they signed for 2 years giving them more security than the 1 year a lot of Albion players are offered.

Results wise, Mose were pretty competitive this season. It is generally a good principle to accept that everyone will improve their squad at least as much your own team will. Much as I would like to see some difference, I would not expect teams to be more than one/two league places different. In the regular season, the only surprising team was Donny who apparently had horrendous injury problems at the start of the season and were playing catch-up  (results and confidence) from then on.

Mark, the whole point of exeforever's post was that he was questioning whether this was actually happening with clubs seeming to release large numbers of players and perhaps not replacing them with similar. As the very least it may be that clubs will be operating smaller squads which may mean more of a level playing field for clubs like moseley who have had a small squad for some seasons.

I'm of two minds whether the top eight playoff spaces make teams feel they can weaken their sides a little, realistically the top two next season will be Worcester and ex/Bristol.
May be the incentative is not to challenge but use the top eight as the goal and stabilise finances, clubs maybe able to strengthen by L/DR at what will be the business end of the season. just a thought!!
By the way Exe am a new convert to you guys at the chiefs have been nagged for ages by some colleagues to come and so glad i have, great place really impressed...

Glad you're enjoying it, bit buttock clenching at present but either a lot of exciting teams to watch next year or another successful run at the season with perhaps a better outcome, this was Rob's first season in charge and the official line was that nothing was expected of this year, pretty good result for a "nothing expected year" whatever happens tonight.

Rumoured on Moseley forum that Rob Tirlby will be taking up a coaching position with a GP club.

Julien Laharrague rumoured to be on his way to worcester, 32 year old former france international.
Current club Mountabaun have just been relegated and fallen on hard times finnancially.

I believe after their relegation Luke Rooney decided not to follow through with his proposed move so seems fairly credible.

I think he was who Nottingham had lined up to replace Du Plessis when he went to Saracens, but were unable to bring in due to objections from Donny. Ended up bringing in French from Wasps instead.

Is that still possibly on the cards now with the loss of Parr to Sarries??

Also just wondering if any other Notts fans know about the duel registration with Northampton of Christian Lewis-Pratt and James Ingle.

Was announced toward the back end of the season just passed but i dont remember either of them featuring so was that an announcement for this coming season??
