Ponty.net, can't vouch if they are any good but The Sportsman is about 400yds from the ground a few others within a mile or so. Seriously (yes I'm biased) you're as well off in the ground, Large bar under the main stand with a food severy which does the famous cow pie, several bars in the club house

Halliford, Melrose will probably keep Mrs Halliford occupied for the first half, IIRC very small but very nice (picked up a nice pair of sugar tongs with an Edinburgh hallmark there a few years ago, very reasonable)

The bar in the stadium is fine (as in it serves keg or guinness etc) and geared up for quick service even though the crowd was minimal - just that it shut for about 30 minutes just when I'd finished my first one, then re-opened halfway through the second half. It's one of those 'inside the stadium, no day light' jobbies. Best check the 'rules' and get a couple in!
After the game the 'club bar' (can't remember what it was called) is good though - big area with windows and stuff on the ground floor where players and supporters can mix. Big honours board etc.
Before the match I'd suggest going in to Llanelli itself where there's plenty of pubs dishibg up Felinfoel (sp?).

Last time I checked, Meadow Lane was quite a convenient venue for me to travel to... Llanelli on the other hand! |

This year's games are primarily on Heineken Cup weekends rather than 6 Nations, am I right?
If so, we will undoubtedly see weaker Irish teams, which might open things up a bit more.

All in the eye of the beholder. Meadow Lane is probably Ok for those coming from Derby (Ok I know nobody with any self respect goes from Derby to Nottingham) . Llanelli is Ok for anybody coming off the M4. I do the journey frequently and I can tell you London to Llanelli (200 miles down the M4) is easier than London to Nottingham (140 up the M1). And despite what other posters on here say Parc Y Scarlets is infinitely better than Meadow Lane for a rugby match. But then again - all in the eye etc.....

Thanks for all the advice to Mrs Halliford - Munster has now been moved to january, leaving us with just Melrose for Christmas shopping! The sugar spoons sound great, but do they sell them in large enough numbers for us?
Great fun having revised fixtures announced after Clubs have posted them. Keeps everyone on their toes, I suppose. Esher are considering Friday nights for home B&I Cup matches - the excat dates will be confirmed soon.

Ponty - if you are going to Donny on a supporters coach or as a group I recommend that you book in for cow pie, chips and peas. The Nottingham supporters club do so at every Donny game - they are very sensibly priced, you can eat in a nice dining room the food is good and the people could not be more friendly - Donny is one of our favourite away trips of the year. I agree with KandD you are as well off in the ground. The atmosphere on the terraces is second to none too.
On the pitch Donny are, shall we say, combative, but then you play Neath regularly :) |

Seconded, LW supporters gatecrashed Donny's EOS do, we had a lovely meal and were made most welcome. Nice cheese for pudding too, we saved some to have with a glass of red on the way back. :)

Unless you are going to the little Plough or Masons Arms would not recommend any pubs in Donny centre, nor any near the ground.
It was all different in my youth etc etc etc.
Stick to the ground.
NRM - take out the cards we get against Notts and our disciplinarary record would be examplary

Dear Nottingham Rugby Mad
I was just thinking that the board needed livening up then I read your post and it dawned on me Donnie and Nottingham here we go again brilliant and the season will be here before we know it can't wait.
"Combative" very nicely put compared to your co supporters last season. It may be difficult to sustain our reputation as we only have three props at the moment !

The spelling actually helps in this case, examplary is to serve as an example (of not how to do it). Exemplary on the other hand is commendable and worthy of immitation (dictionary.com) Edited by knightandday - 10 Jul 2010 at 18:29 |

Should anyone from Currie RFC in Edinburgh read this forum could they please confirm the KO time on the 11th December for the game against the Cornish Pirates. The Pirate fans would like to purchase some cheap flights up ASAP. Last year Leinster changed the day and time so many times a number of Pirate fans paid for flights and missed the game.

Allegedly the Currie/Pirates game is in fact a 3 PM kick off; I hope we can avoid the confusion around last season's game in Leinster.......

So do i cheshire exile.A large number of Pirate Fans purchased flights then to find Leinster changed the day and time. The boys missed the game and it cost them a lot of money.
Now we have 2 times announced the one on Currie RFC website says 12 pm and the Pirates Official said that was incorrect and the time is 3pm. Are we any wiser.

Has anyone thought of contacting the Currie club directly? You may get a better answer than just by speculating on this forum! Their telephone number and a contact page are available on their web site.

The SRU "recomend" that all fixtures in Scotland played between 6th November and 8th January have 1:30 kick offs.
Malleny Park does have suficient lighting to allow games to kick off/finish later.
Yes it does get dark early up here.
So make sure of kick off time before booking flights.
