For anyone interested, the makeup of the Welsh competitors will now be as follows:
Pontypridd - www.ponty.net

Both Cardiff and Aberavon failed to make the cut during the Play-off stages.

Pitty Cardiff arn't in the mix again, i quite fancy an away trip to my old uni! I have friends in Ponty so i reackon that could be my draw of choice for Mose next season.

Nice to see a proper community club like Llandovery mixing it with the big boys.

Went to Pontypridd for this year's match.  It rained!!!!  It's a long journey to look at puddles.

It does that alot in Ponty, but the locals are friendly and the beer flows freely.

Does this mean that this ridiculous competition continues for another season? No wonder clubs are in financial difficulty.

romford "ridiculous competition"
Final PIRATES v MUNSTER at Camborne looks like getting 5000+ attendance and screened by SKY TV.

I think 'ridiculous' is going a bit far, as i said before with a bit of tweeking i think it could be a very good and sustainable contest with real public interest. Its a throw back for us Mose fans to get to play Celtic teams. Friendships develop and hopefully it will provide a good base for rugby outside the elite Magners and GP.

So that's 2 clubs it's worked out well for Stadium. Shame about the other 22. It would be interesting to know whether clubs have seen a net loss or gain out of the competition

Exe had very good gates despite playing the third XV in most games however if you look at the costs of an away game in Scotland or Ireland plus overnight stays etc and take that out of the home gate for the equivalent fixture and take off the cost of staging the home games I'd be surprised if it didn't make a loss for most of the sides involved.  Surely the first criterion for any game involving this sort of "side show" is that participation should at least break even and hopefully be an income generator, (otherwise let's go back to the old Easter tours),

Any idea how the championship teams will be aligned next time? Although relegation / promotion will change a couple of the teams it would be nice, for example, if Bedford, Moseley and London Welsh weren't in the same pool again. A mix-up of the teams would help refresh the competition.

You can't have it both ways; a flurry of complaints about travel costs then a plea for different groupings......

Its been said before but worth repeating that the Heineken wasn't the best supported competition when it was launched but it has gone from strength to strength.
Its too early in my book to completely 'rubbish' the B& I cup and hopefully with a bit of sponsorship and some fine tuning it can improve.

Good point PP.

The B & I Cup could become the Trophy that everyone is desperate to win and the Pirates could be the first ever winners !

On the other hand..............

The Welsh Rugby Union has paid travel costs for each and every Welsh team in the British & Irish Cup, but the Union recoups all gate monies. Bar takings and additional profits are kept by the Clubs.

That's a cracking idea. Still needs tweaked, but for the 6 Welsh sides, 4 Irish and 3 Scottish it is definitely a good thing, although it might not be for Championship sides until there is a bit of sponsorship in it. Tweak of the format definitely needed to make it more competitive.

Were Llandovery in it last time?  They're a bit out of the heartlands, and it looks like one hell of a drive!

The problem was that certain English clubs made it quite clear in the press from the outset that they weren`t interested in the competition.

Well its their loss. There are only two trophies to be won at Level 2 and Bristol and Exeter were always favourites to contest one of them.

Any coaches who lack ambition should not be coaching - simples, as those bleddy meerkats keep saying.

I think some champoinship clubs looked at the B & I cup as a way of getting their players injured, when league survival on low finances count.
After all no prize money and a tin cup, hardly help keep clubs viable.

Hell we've had players injured in training, it happens. Ok there's no prize money but we've had two extra home games out of this Cup with a decent crowd in the semi and looks like a good crowd for the final - ALL stand seats now sold and ground tickets selling well. And although we play at Camborne's ground we get ALL the beer sales money from both the clubhouse and the beer tents.
We may share the parking monies with Camborne RFC but I don't know for sure on that one.

So, for us, it's been good - its always good to try and win whatever competition you enter otherwise what is the point?

I wish you the best of luck, Pirates are in a better position than many clubs, a decent attendance helps pay the bills.
My team had a target this season, and chose to put its resources that way. If we don't make it we have still grown in strength on and off the pitch. Today is a tough day against Bedford a good team.
But we will be playing Bedfords best team, not a 2nd string team as put out from the higher leagues in B & I cup.

When they take it seriously I think the championship will as well.
Enjoy the day, and I hope you win. Those are rare words from me cpt Sparrow, but i do mean it.

I have said before, I have really enjoyed this competition. We played our best rugby in the games against Cardiff and Ayr.

I for one hope it continues (with tweaks so we don't get to play Roth and Bees again,)
Winning isn't everything, it just makes the beer taste better

Funny how it's a tin cup when you're no longer in it. Was the EDF Trophy a tin cup as well?Tongue

The Munster A team for the final has 6 Academy players aged 21/22 in the starting line up.  Most of the team plays in the AIL league regularly although some (such a Manning and Holland have played a fair bit of Magners League).  Where the Irish provincial teams have an advantage is that they draw on a number of AIL league clubs for the Academy and sub-Academy players.  Nagle Archer and O'Mahony play for Cork Constitution who have just won the AIL league and a number of the team have played for Ireland at U19 and U20 level.

It will be a strong team playing the Pirates. they have won 11 from 11 so far this season.

I'll be there - C'mon de boys!!!!
