Everyone wants to win it. It's what your willing to do/jeopardise to get to the Championship - and stay there - that really matters.

Slow and steady wins the race... unless you're Bees...Confused

Just a brief response to Exiled for CRUFC. Three top scoring wingers in consecutive years, Chris Lombaard, Luke Fielden and Handre Schmidt. It has been the nature of each to be there for the final pass or opportunistically to turn a faltered attack by either side into a successful score. What is interesting this coming season is whether or not the direction produces the same again or favours even more tries but scored as a balanced contribution across the team. My expectation is the latter.

It seems perfectly reasonable to me to express the current standings as the order at the end of last season. What makes you think it's a prediction?

I do not think it was a prediction. Just someone who put the ND 1 clubs down incorrectly.

Here are the votes from Rome:

Top 10

1 London Scottish - despite stall at end of last season, Exiles to move up a gear - and league

2 Coventry - reality sets in

3 Tynedale - another solid season

4 Wharfedale - ditto

5 Launceston - don't know why - feeling in my water

6 Blackheath - turning the corner

7 Macclesfield - cash investment pays dividends

8 Sedgley Park - still struggling to find all conquering form

9 Redruth - they're Cornish after all

10 Cambridge - loss of key players, not enough experience

Relegation zone:

Blaydon - did not impress, although their facilities do

Stourbridge - solid, steady but unremarkable

Barking - how many key promotion players have they retained?

Rosslyn Park - unknown quantity - bit did best the students

Cinderford - need to replicate home form whilst on the road

Otley - can they rebuild?

When in Rome..........eat a pizza

I shall be following National 1 next season, switching my support to Wharfedale, but only after the first ten games will I be making predictions that may be more than 50% accurate.  I did reasonably well predicting N3M games, so hope to translate this to level 3.

Having given it some considerable thought, I'm also thinking of writing some software that predicts the end of season table based on previous performance, predicted performances, and outstanding fixtures.  Obviously such a model will become more accurate the nearer it gets to the end of the season, but it will be an interesting exercise in number crunching anyway.

Rosslyn Park could be for the drop eh?  Forecast mainly by posters from the north who have no idea of the depth of Park's resources.  OK. they may not win it for sure, but their organisation is stronger than most. And the local free sheet suggests that Stuart Abbott's move to South Africa may be not be permanent after all.....

Having looked at the fixture list, we'll all be glad of a rest at Christmas and be hacked off with the stop start in the run in.

I'll predict that I'll be stir crazy by Boxing day and watching S4C and Alba rugby, where normal laws of the game seem not to apply.

In their promotion season Park missed out in a raft of bonus point wins, due to their inability to achieve 4 try point wins. At level 3, clubs will not be so accommodating and I fear a season of near loss misses will be on the cards.

May need a tweak now as you must have heard, ES, the rumour that Park have signed a winger who was a regular starter in the GP last season.  Great signing (if true of course) and  maybe an indication that more funds have been injected into Park than we thought.

Isnt the source of the Park Funding  the middle eastern wife of the bloke who was involved at Scottish and Welsh?

B & S – I thought that individual and those associated with him had disappeared a long time ago thankfully!!! It’s my understanding that a genuine wealthy individual by the name of Simon Tindall is heavily financing/sponsoring Park for the coming season.

Solva – As I said in my original post it was early doors, so given the ongoing recruitment at Park, they may well escape the trap door. Do enlighten us on who the new winger is, whom you indicate is on his way to Park. You may wish to post it under the Player Rumour thread. How many ex-LW players are in the Park squad now, as I have lost count?? Confused

Are LW filling up with emerging Ospreys, leaving the incumbents to move to Park? There are some rather tasty players just released by Falcons that I'd love to see come to Tyne for next season. Spencer Davey at 12 would really enhance the backline and there is a hooker kicking his heels because Falcons have poached Joe Graham, so perhaps he might move west. Somehow I doubt it, but it would be a nice thought

B&S - regretably no news from LS on additional Barman... on your next visit please do mention this continued source of frustration to our hosts the RAA as it would seem our concerns over staffing have fallen on deaf ears...

B & S – I can only concur with the ExtraB post.

Unfortunately the provision of the bar staff is under the remit of the RAA and outside of the control of London Scottish. Therefore, it’s always nice to hear complementary comments from visitors, such as yourself and those from Club on the fine service they deliver. Top quality as always. Embarrassed

Just think yourself lucky, as we have to put up with it for all our home matches.

Hopefully next season we will see more use of outside bars to relieve the pressure on the two indoor bars. Certainly for those matches which one can easily anticipate a large crowd that will be in attendance. There again, we are talking about the RAA, but one can live in hope. Wink

I'm with you there RC.

I sought solace in drink to drown out those pipes.  If it's a plan to grow bar sales ...it works !

As for you Exiled, you have been in West London too long and from reading your post, have caught a touch of the 'twickers', based firmly on the 'Yes Minister' principle.

When confronted with an tricky issue, come back with:

1. It does not fall within our remit.
2. We should seek the views of the other stakeholders before we act.
3. Some may view it as 'unlawful'.
4. It could be costly and difficult to implement.

and now we can add ...

5. It could be seen as irresponsible, given the state of the economy.

Five 'Get out of Gaol Free' cards for you. Use them well !

The frightening thing is that even when Exiles are on the wrong end of a hammering, you just can't shut up those blasted pipes! Haven't enough experience to tell whether they are more infrequently abused or if the 'tune' turns more mournful in such instances, but resisted the temptation to divert to the bar even when the piper was stood in front of me
