Good to see Moseley will be visiting Cambridge pre season.......maybe be able to meet up with a few names on this board.
Never played Moseley before and adds a nice touch of spice to a season where we meet Coventry on equal terms.
Patience is a virtue but not my strong point.

Not sure about Stirling but to have what would appear to be, with respect, quite easy games against teams who struggled late on in a division below seems unambitious.

I cansee the attarction of being able to focus on grooving playing patterns but teams aiming high seem to tend to go for the stiff test, put us under pressure appraoch.

Happy to be told there's advantages in both methods and to be assured that I don't know what I'm talking about - and certainly no disrespect to Wharfedale intended; indeed, it only occurred to me because of their good season last time and likely repeat this time, or better.

Rather, just interested to learn from others' views.

I'm not a qualified Coach, and have never coached anyone, but here's what I think;

I think if you're got new players for trials, and you're also looking to build some confidence within the squad, then you have to play some 'easier' games, at least early on.  Putting new players out against well organised 'stronger' teams may have the element of focusing the new player on the difficult task, but it also has the more likely effect of having the game shut down by the opposition, new players losing confidence in their abilities, and other squad members losing both confidence in new players and team moral.

Pre-season is a time for building; the squad, the confidence within the squad, and team moral, the time for managing the knocks and losses is within the season, when new players can become late replacements to gain game time when the heads are all up and the game has already been won.  Also when the game is already lost, or could be won with a late score, a coach can elect to either give a new player game time to gain experience, even change the balance of the team in order to turn the game around.

I just think pre-season is the time for building, not breaking, but you'd really have to canvass coaches to get a definitive answer either way.

There's always next week...

I and no doubt several others will be very pleased to meet you and others when Cambridge and Coventry play. Hope to be at both games.

I think that with Wharfedale losing so many key players from last years side it will be a case of learning how the new players will link with the existing.
On the other hand I think the pre-season Preston Grasshopper fixture dates back a good few years and the Kendal game, again long standing, is for a trophy in memory of an ex- Kendal member.

More worrying is the latest rumour that Solomi might be on his way to Doncaster !!! That would be disasterous and may mean Wharfedale face a very long, hard season  Confused

London Scottish returns to Scotland to play Currie and Ayr on the 13th/14th August respectfully. Currie & Ayr are two of Scotlands representatives in the British & Irish Cup. The following weekend London Scottish host our fellow Exiles London Welsh on the 21st Aug and the final pre-season fixture on the 28th is still to be announced.

CRUFC  have Moseley at home on the 14th August and then Bridgend Ravens away on 28th.  I thought we were supposed to have Southend on the intervening weekend but that seems to have disappeared Confused

I believe Southend is a Wanderers fixture against their 2nd XV.

Don't you mean, with a weekend tour jersey for the bank holiday weekend.
The weather forecast isn't great for the end of August.

As a Hackney VP, I'm sure that the club would relish the opportunity to play CABS. Some good YouTube entries if searched under 'hackneygriffin'. A couple of the players could hold their own at Level 4/5 if they laid off the fags and booze!! Don't forget they played at Twickenham last year (which is more than most of us can say) as winners of the Guinness 'Club Together' scheme!

Students v Scottish will be an interesting game...............two full time teams

I don't think the CABS would relish a game down by the Lea and the partisan support

Think CABs should be able to cope with partisan support - after all they have to brave Hellfire Corner at the Reds Smile
