I'm not certain but I think this thread may have been included previously. If so, I apologise.
With the advent of Community Radio Stations throughout the length and breadth of the UK does anyone know if any of their local stations plan to, or have previously, covered National 1 games. With the majority of them now broadcasting via the internet it would be a good way to follow your sides progress when unable to attend away fixtures. I know that Cambridge, Newbury and Blackheath had Commercial Radio coverage last season but think that a word in the ear of someone at the new breed of stations could prove productive. Who knows, if anyone fancies the thought of being the next Ian Robertson or Nigel Starmer-Smith, it could be you updating the National 1 nation on how their sides are progressing. Any information on stations, frequencies and, more importantly, web sites would be very much appreciated and I'm planning on contacting our local Dales station, Fresh Radio, to ask if they could increase their local rugby coverage.

Wharfeman.......Steve Jackson does a great job for BBC Cambs, but to say we have radio coverage is stretching it a bit. The last Home match of the season was covered, but apart from that, it's usually half time/full time reports. Whereas, the hair stylists of wendyball infamy, playing in the Poundstretchers 3rd division SE reffed by the goalies dad league, get endless weekend and midweek live coverage.... Sorry.......hobby horse... Radio Dreckly on the other hand, are pretty good. |

When I was Press Officer for Essex I used to act as rugby correspondent for Essex Radio. I would record a weekend preview of games in the county on Fridays and a roundup of the weekend's news on Mondays. Then on Saturday I would pick a game to watch and submit a live report from wherever I was at the end of the game. Not a great deal of coverage but certainly better than nothing. Unfortunately the station was taken over several times and ended up being run from Swindon, losing all interest in local sport so that they could play music, music, music!
I did report live for BBC Essex when Barking were last in National Two and Time FM in Romford have also covered the club. It really is down to the club's press officer to contact these stations and make the case for coverage.

Radio cornwall normally covers 1 game live, pirates if they are playing and very occasionally truro fc. On average 4 or 5 full games for reds and CABs in a season. There are also live updates every week and a round up of all local results.

Radio Cornwall are quite good, although sometimes they seem to cover not so important games. I find that Twitter is the best place to get quick live updates over the whole of the country and various leagues. Mind you for updates this forum is superb.

Coventry coverage is through the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire radio station. Depending on the local association football coverage we do get full match cover. Also once a month there is an excellent rugby programme called Ruck and Maul. The broadcaster for all things COV is John Butler.
