Unsure if this has been posted already...??

Hot off the Press.

If any club goes imto administration this season they will go into the relegation play offs and receive 20 penalty points!

According to a source close to the RFU HQ.

From the Albion Site.... http://www.rugbynetwork.net/boards/read/s503.htm?961,11687643

(i.e. the 20 points is carried forward into the relegation pool not wiped out)

May be a bit late in the day, but should be a solution for this season if true.

yes, the sanctions being used this season apply to the rugby season and do not appear to include the closed season - quite bizarre - and only apply to Championship clubs????

a Club that goes into administration during the regular season will be deducted 20 points and be placed in pool C

If a club experiences an insolvency event in the playoffs and is in pool A or Pool B during the playoffs, they will have a deduction of 20 points applied to the current season and then 10 to the season after that (gosh, that's tough)

If a club experiences an insolvency event in the playoffs and is in pool C, they have a ten point deduction and if they don't get relegated 10 points deduction the following season

It took three insolvencies last year for the RFU to come up with this half-hearted nonsense (one of those was a repeat offender) and frankly this proposal for the forthcoming season seems to invite insolvency events safe in the knowledge that the Union will give you a slap on the wrists and shuffle some paperwork about.

If more than one firm goes bust this year, then the RFU must come up with something more suitable (but that is as likely as a withdrawal from Afghanistan in the next six months)

Have the RFU been business like enough pre season to make sure the twelve clubs are already financially sustainable to survive the season or will we have another fiasco like last season. My gues is the RFu are not smart enough to do that so they will take a flyer.

This is good to stop teams over spending, however it does mean that if anybody does go into admini early on it effectively makes the season pointless to all accept top few.
Your just not thinking 4th dimensionally. Once you hit 88 those indian's won't even be there.

I can see some logic in this, but if it happens at the same stage of the season as it did last year, you would again get an unfair impact on other teams, depending on how many times they have already played the affected club.

This would affect both the remaining relegation pool places and the two promotion pools.

I'm coming round to the French bond/audit system.

I see from The Rugby Paper yesterday that it could affect quite a few clubs this close season, in multiple divisions.

There are wasted costs with bonds/audits, but it may be the only way that the Championship can be guaranteed to be a real contest between adequately funded clubs with appropriate and realistic ambitions.

Hmmm, brain still ticking over on this one. Why the disparity in points deductions between the playoff pools? Cubs in pool C will potentially have a higher number of points than those in pools A and B as they are carrying more into the playoffs. I really don't undetstand why the penalty is less when the problem is exactly the same

TC08, I'm with you on prevention rather than (or perhaps alongside) sanctions. If the RFU can introduce a set of regulations for the specific needs of the Championship then they can introduce a system of auditing just for the Championship too.
