A thread for general news/gossip.
What do people know of the teams entering the league this year? Sutton, Bournville, Derby, Ampthill, Sandback and Nuneaton?

There are a number of comments on other threads concerning this, where the consensus seems to be that all these sides will be strong, and the league will be very strong next year with it potentially being won with less than 100 points.
The only unknown quantity is Sandbach who are being level transferred. |

I think Nuneaton will be the weakest out of those teams...Mike Umaga has left and they've been reliant on a core group of class players. Warwickshire rumour mill is suggesting they will struggle to keep hold of them for next season. And whilst this happened to Broadstreet when we were relegated from Nat 2, Nuneaton don't have a strong 2nd/3rd/4th team to fall back on.
I think they'll be a mid-table side |

I have seen them a few times and they are no mugs and will finish comfortably top half. Very well run and organised club and very welcoming for away fans . Nice people and good addition to Nat 3.

Streetcred I think you're right about Nuneaton they don't have the depth, alot of 2nd team players have gone to other local social teams.im looking forward to this season as its local derby galore, on the downside I think we will only squeeze one bus trip to sandbach, maybe ampthill if we are lucky! The rumour mill is suttoncolfield will do a Dudley?our pre season will start with fence post digging and painting as we push to get our new pitch ready for sept!

Ampthill will be strong, third in SE3 last season, and won the Mids last time they were in it but didn't get promoted for other reasons.
I would have thought all sides will need a coach to Sunny Scunny. Transfer news Mcfreddies and Culpin moving from South to Hinckley for big money. |

Yes some interesting teams in the league this season anda lot will obviously depend upon who recruits or loses players.
With regard to Sutton I have not seen them but from what I hear they are strong and it seems they have a good second team from the interminable discourse I read about their cup game with Rugby. I have seen Bourneville and on the basis of last season I reckon they will need to strengthen. Does anybody know if they are? It is a shame to see Malvern moved ascross always enjoyed trips there. What do their players think? I am sure a stato will provide the distances but they must be going to have some long journeys into the south west. I guess they are similar to their long trips east to Scunny and north to Mansfield. My hot tips based on no knowledge whatsoever is either Longton good finish last season and do not lose many at home or Ampthill. From past encounters usually strong depends what the cheque book is like! Hopefully this will have put the kiss of death on those two!!!!!!!!

Typical South Leicester one-eyed view "Top players only come for Top money". Probably the reason your players are approaching Hinckley? South still have the money-man they had last season but players are leaving, why is that then?Maybe, just maybe some players actually want a bit more from a club than 80 mins and a pay check? Social - Hinckley voted most social hospitable club in County by referees, our lunch dinners have a waiting list and our bars are full of 5 senior sides every Saturday well past the barmaids working hours, maybe that's more appealing to some players than a big pay check?Training - our numbers rarely drop below 30 senior players (i believe 6-8 was the average South turnout most weeks), maybe some players want to actually improve as players and value quality training over money. The only "big money" signing Hinckley have made is the mortgage agreement for our new ground! This might sound a bit foreign to you guys at South but at Hinckley we play for something with a greater meaning than the individual...the club! Thanks for highlighting the two fantastic signings Hinckley have made, please do continue to do so as there are plenty more to come I can assure you ![]() very sad to see Malvern moved out of N3M, great club, great games, great people, great drinkers

One of the reasons Freddy is moving is likely to be money. He will no doubt say it is also development.
Try checking your facts before making such statements because I can assure you that Mitch won't be coming cheap either. Edited by Touch judge - 27 May 2012 at 14:36 |

Try checking my facts? Lets review the facts in my above statement. Fact some players in N3M play for more than money - correct. Fact Hinckley won most hospitable club in the County - correct. Fact- training- our numbers remained at a steady 30 - correct. Fact - the biggest signing we have made is the new rugby club at nearly £750k - correct. Fact some players value personal development of skills and the social aspect of the game over money - correct. Fact every player in Hinckley plays with the belief that the club is bigger than them - correct
So which fact do I need to check? Your eagerness to disclose private player club information in such an open forum does nothing more than highlight your bitterness and cement the validity of my previous comments. I'm not for one second doubting your fact is 100% correct , however......I SAID to my girlfriend before I met her that I had an 8 incher....and that clearly wasn't the truth ![]() Builds for a great local derby when we meet! |

Ok so let's deal with the usual argument from Hinckley. I've no doubt that all the above are true, as I would expect from any town rugby club, fed by one of the best state rugby schools in the country. Good luck with the £750k mortgage, oh sorry we shouldn't be discussing financial details in public. Maybe you're going to have to charge £10 to get into every game next season.
My original post was on topic, you are the one who decided to turn it into look at us aren't we great. Am I bitter, no, players move on for whatever reason, something your chairman should remember after his programme notes when we visited Leicester road last season, Greasley and Keeling approached us FACT. You want facts. Last season South had its most successful season ever finishing 3rd in the league and winning the county cup 2 FACTS. The 2 players mentioned are currently playing for a Leicestershire side that has 10 South players in the squad FACT. That squad is coached by the Hinckley coach and suddenly they are moving FACT. One of the players mentioned is local to South, and yet has decided to move o a new club, where the current number 1 is the player keeping him out of the county side in that position FACT. The financial details were being discussed openly at the county game on Saturday FACT. I like Hinckley, town centre is a bit rough though, I like your club, and I know that many of the players are friends. What rankles a little is a club standing up and saying look what you did and said about us, and then doing the same thing themselves. Good luck for next season and I look forward to our games. |

It still cost you a fortune to finish 3rd . so I'm guessing the money man is looking at the league for this season and promo is no guarantee either so its a potential risky investment?£10 a game was a one off for Rugby lions and there are plenty of threads if you want to debate that one! Your financial advice is as bad as your pitch how have the other Midland Counties got on in the county season? If any apart from TJ has stuck with the thread

Agreed on the league especially with he return of our friends from Ampthill. Their shenanigans cost you dear last time.
At least our pitch is level!!!!! Great county game, forwards we're excellent but backs played their part as well. To be the 2nd penalty of the 3 was more a PT than the 3rd. Surrey will be tough it's almost a home ie for them, and they must be decent to go up to Cumbria and get a win. |

Yes it did we got a default taste of the fruits of N2S thanks to Ampthill and we haven't forgot it! Personally at this level I think the North have the braun and the South have the brains backed with the finance so Surrey is the tougher final for Leics. I cant see them having a pack like Leics so that should be the focus. We have had that ref a few times and he's been woeful with the whistle at the scrum and breakdown on every outing!

We aren't fighting. South, Hinckley and Syston all love each other.
It's Leicester Lions we really don't like. |

We do love each other and it's great we are all now at same level with ALL local lads in all 3 teams. Lions on the other hand oh how we wish that one bonus point didn't save them from the drop as it would have made all our seasons to get a shot at them! Well enjoy the trips away and hopefully we get to see your lovely hills next year.

re new boys at Hinckley.
I seen to recall reading a biog of Mitch Culpin when he was at Birmingham and solihull that he atrated his rugby at Hinckley. Is his signing just the return of the prodigal son?
