GRIFF’S FINAL THOUGHTS
Dear Friends & Foes!
At around 2pm on Friday 25th May 2007 I closed the door to my office for the last time thus officially ending my tenure as DOR at Doncaster Knights RFC. Behind me I left some fantastic memories and I will never forget my ‘brief encounter’ at Castle Park. It was an emotional day as I bid my farewells to everyone – people who, behind the scenes, were so instrumental in a successful season. I will forever value their help and more important their friendship.
As I locked my door Steve Lloyd walked in through the club’s front entrance. It was impeccable timing by Steve and literally a case of “one door closing and another one opening” - for both of us! That’s how we both must now view this latest episode in the club’s long and successful history.
To you, the supporters, thank you so much for the way you have got behind the team at every destination. If my decision to leave half way through my contract has disappointed you then I understand but this was an opportunity that, after a great deal of thought, I felt I had to pursue. When the dust has finally settled I hope you will see it from my point of view?
To the players, you have been a pleasure to coach and it has been an honour to be associated with you. Your attitude, work ethic and play have been exemplary throughout a marathon season that lasted 47 weeks (when you include pre season training). Overall, 30 wins 1 draw and 8 losses isn’t a bad return from all 1st XV matches played during 2006/2007! It was so fitting that the season finished in some style by winning the Yorkshire Cup at York – something to show for the season’s efforts.
All that remains now is to wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the future. The challenges will soon arrive thick and fast but the dream of Premiership rugby at Doncaster Knights is in good hands and still very much alive.
Pob Hwyl,
Griff
