What sort of question is that? Does it matter at all? What defines "home grown"?

I think the guy that asked me was meaning lads that were developed by the club as opposed to hired guns.

my point was, does it matter whether your team is made up of "hired guns"  as you put it or lads developed by the club.

How can it matter, every club has different forms, CS 1863 are more a less s one team club. They have to rely on people who the coach and others can attract, they have no mini, junior, ladies, or even membership like most other clubs. Possibly they punch above their weight.

I totally agree as well but the point being made was when the money goes the club implodes. How many great clubs have been destroyed by cheque book rugby? Answer lots. Anyway at least we have two home grown players in the Thurrock side.

I sincerely hope that Thurrock don't fall victim as so many others have done in the not too distant past.

Mr Thurrucker is not a club supporter but as stated on the forum in the past about other 'members'.. a club troll!!

Thurrucker's views are views and opinions of someone looking in on the club trying to stir the pot.

Sounds as tho Play4money and Thurrucker are from the same club, but who knows.

Regardless of the pointless nature of the question, the answer is 'yes thanks'.

Team changes week on week, sure like some teams we have weeks where there's not too many and some where there's plenty.

The one thing there is focus on is 'English' qualified players. Also, unlike many other clubs who do pay players, there's a heavy amount of and consistent involvement in coaching minis and juniors at the club as well as representing the club at local primary schools to encourage more children to take up the sport.

Anyone joining our club has to be in it 100%, and I'd point out that you can get many local lads who don't have that engagement or put in such efforsts, so for me the initial point is effectively irrelevant.

What's pertinent is whether local 'homegrown' lads are being marginalised despite being of the required quality and putting in sufficient efforts at the club, which in my opinion is short sighted and wrong.

The funny thing is people often mention 'cheque book' rugby, you can't assume every club who pays have a sugar daddy. Try an even spread of contributing sponsors (much like re-insurance where you spread the risk) and a hell of a lot of fund-raising which makes up the bulk of the available budget, which funnily enough is helped by the time contributed from ALL players operating within the senior squad along with those kind folk elsewhere in the club.

I don't have any issue with any club who have money, and those people who do because there club aren't so lucky could better spend their efforts trying to assist their so called beloved team, rather than begrudging that which others have. If people rely on a sugar daddy then more fool them, but even a sugar daddy can be investing in sustainability at clubs even if it's not at first apparent (look at Worcester as the prime example, or any other premiership club for that matter).

Most clubs who had a sugar daddy fell foul of the fact they were paying players lots of money and many weren't paying the relevant tax and NI, so by not going through the books and HMRC's intent on clawing back money in the last couple of years is actually what's impacted many of the clubs who've had a fairly rapid demise (5/6/7 figure  tax bills tend to do that).

If Thurrucker was affiliated with us he would know that north, timson,Russo rettigan, Gorman, Farrell, rate, bedding, barrand and Stanley are homegrown players!
We are always under budget and ignore any interest where money is mentioned before team !
Too much is put on 'Homegrown' ! Totally unrealistic and idealistic ! Have enjoyed everygame so far and am loving this league!
