I may be tempting fate but if I were Jersey i'd see nothing to be scared of in that LI team. I agree about Irish's backline, Meehan and Myler are total class but apart from that I don't think its better than many championship teams.

I wouldn't want to be relying on 10 man rugby against Jersey. if I was an Irish supporter i'd have a few concerns about this game.

If I was an Irish player I wouldn't sleep well at all being on the bottom bunk with a few sketchy IKEA Allen Bolts between me and an 18 stone Nick "Salad" Selway!

Jersey unsurprisingly 3KG a man heavier than Irish in the starting pack and with Godfrey (a wonderful loose head) on the bench likely to be even more than that when he comes on last quarter. I agree with DKF Myler is a class apart - I'm delighted he is playing as given that I never expect Jersey to win this league I measure the season by how they do against the top teams - I see it as Jersey's cup final and I always hope to see the best teams with their top players.

I am sure Matt Rogerson will have another great game against his old team. Gutted I can't be there.

Spy 28482, count yourself lucky in your bottom bunk; when Salad was first served here, he weighed well over twenty stone.Wink

For the sake of The Championship we really do need Jersey to win this one. A win for London Irish would, even after just nine matches, put them in a pretty unassailable position in my opinion.

So come on you Jersey boys!!

Right...feet on the ground time.

LI are not stupid, they would have done their homework and if they are loading the side in the front 10, then they obviously have seen a weakness in the Reds game plan.
I don't know anything about the 'weak' backline that they are supposedly putting out, so can't comment, however, this is still a Premiership outfit that we are playing against and with it comes top quality strategy.

Yes, I am hopeful that we will win and my confidence is just over 50%, but if I have noticed that this seasons front 8 aren't as good as last seasons in the set piece, then you can bet your bottom dollar that LI have also got an inkling.
Maybe what they haven't got the handle on is what these boys can do with ball in hand now.....we shall see...can't wait!!

Just had a look at the highlights of the LI CP game on the LI website. I see what you mean about LI kicking to the corner. Their RM looks very impressive. They get it set, in a powerful position very quickly and is very hard to stop.
I know that there was only a few minutes of highlights, but there didn't seem to be much else. The 9 looks like a little terrier and I lost count of the number of missed tackles on him as he wriggled through for his score.
However, out wide LI look very vulnerable.

Discipline, discipline, discipline!
I'm sure that Jersey have analysed that a bit more than you or I could Brizzer. Its bound to happen in the game tomorrow anyway and they will have worked on how to defend it. The key is when it does happen not to compound an error by repeatedly cheating so that you give a penalty try away and play one short for 10 minutes. If a side sets a maul well and is going to score anyway - make them do it near the corner flag where they might miss the conversion. With Myler playing he will probably still get the conversion but keep 15 on the pitch! I expect Irish to get a couple of mauled tries tomorrow but with Roy playing second half I hope Jersey will take their opportunities and score 5 spread between backs and forwards.

Here's THE LINK to the match programme for those interested...

A few people have mentioned that they want a team-sheet to refer to while at the game - this can now be downloaded from the online prog and printed

This game deserves a great crowd today so i really hope the Jersey public flock to St Peter and bring all their mates and make some noise to support the lads. Bang the boards and bring your cowbells but support the team. A huge pity it's not streamed I think there would be interest in this one from Leeds to Penzance. HOWAY Jersey.

I was in Jersey last week and for 25 minutes the Richmond pack had  Jersey on the ropes
but once they reached equality their backs created try opportunities and scored 2 very good tries
I am not sure if Jersey Captain is back from injury but he would make a difference

Not seen the Irish pack this year but they appear nothing more than solid
However I still think Irish have the firepower in the backs and I was not impressed with Jersey front row replacements
so 0-4

The Irish pack were very impressive against Pirates. Scrum was strong, line out perfect and they scored 4 tries with driving mauls. When they went down to 13 men in the second half they were able to keep possession for long periods and run down the clock.  In the backs, however, they didn't look anything special, and Pirates were probably the better team in the loose.

The back line is certainly the concern we have as fans. Our pack, when we have everyone available is pretty menacing and is certainly on a par with, if not a slightly better version of, the pack we had in the Premiership. In the backs though we are really missing the x-factor of Cokanasiga and Lewington. Our two most exciting youngsters, Loader and Parton are both injured which is a great shame as they would have hugely benefited from time in the Championship. As much as I am a big fan of Myler and he will be invaluable in controlling games for us, he has never been the most creative 10. If we are to win promotion back to the Prem I expect the back line will need a bit of an overhaul.
