Cheers for posting the highlights. Great length of the field try from Jersey (surely that's try of the season sorted) and good continuity over multiple phases for that final score.

The frustrating thing from a LI perspective was that the first two Jersey tries were partially as a result of players (Hearn/Ojo) biting in going for the big play when we had the numbers there to deal with it initially. Something to be said for the good old drift defence in situations like that.

How’s it going R2? All looking a bit tight at the top of N1, but hoping to be seeing your boys again next season.... fingers crossed.

what a try that was from Jersey behind their goal line. if the All Blacks scored a try as good as that we'd never hear the last of it. well played Reds!!!.

The Ruck Podcast devoted several minutes at the end to this game and the brilliant 100m try if anyone wants to give it a listen.

Yeah it's great press for Jersey. What a try and what a day to keep the league interesting!

The only draw back is that this viral video will inevitably lead to the usual harvesting of the Jersey talent crop by the premiership / top 14 like Guy Thompson to Wasps.

The guys deserve a shot at the highest level of rugby but it is sad for us locals when the squad is gutted and we have to rebuild. The life of a Championship rugby team supporter is of love and loss.

Maybe i'm getting a bit sentimental in my old age!

These thoughts and sentiments were discussed by many in the Club and marquee following this game. The Chairman was adamant that no-one was leaving before the end of the season at the earliest. Fingers crossed that this is true.

That's the risk Jersey takes-hiring people who regard the club as a stepping stone. I must say they've gelled very quickly and Mr Biljon is to be congratulated on getting the formula right this season.

The Championship is a stepping stone; one of the selling points for potential recruits to Jersey, apart from being able to go to the beach on summer afternoons after pre-season training, is the track record of players going up to the top level - approx a dozen in past 2 seasons...

Pirates have recently talked about bringing in 3-year contracts - once the S4C is built - so that Prem clubs can't 'pinch' players in this way. Time will tell whether one can 'ring-fence' a squad successfully in that way.

Very difficult to stand in the way of ambition, especially when playing life is so short.

The problem with standing in the way of players movin up is the better younger players may choose to play for a club that openly embraces ambition to play at the highest level.

Wow! That’s the elephant kicked out of the room. Spot on Islander and I really wish CP luck in their exciting new adventure. Perhaps one day Jersey Reds will be in the same position.

Don't think that a 3 year contract would work i.e. it wouldn't protect a Championship Club from those above with large cheque books. Look at James Voss, recently of Jersey. He'd not long signed up for another season here when Tigers came knocking on the door, made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he was gone in a week.  If a Prem Club wants someone, they will pay to break a contract. We may not like it but we can hardly stand in the way of a player who has ambitions to go to the top.  Le Booj at Bedford now Wasps is another example.
I used to be concerned like you Spy 62242 (can't remember your numbers ! )that we were always losing our best players, but this is professional rugby. Anyone who is good enough to be in the Premiership or a top French club etc is going to be spotted and approached. Better IMO to accept this and enjoy the fact that Jersey has a growing reputation as an excellent feeder club if you're good enough, and its not a bad place to spend a season or two learning your trade
Come on Jersey........

Do we assume from this that Jersey have no ambition to be a Premiership club? The reasoning behind 3 year contracts at Pirates (once the interminable wait for the new stadium is over) is, presumably, to convince them that they could become a top flight player by staying put.

Or to ensure that CP get compensation from the Premiership club for an extra year.

Prem clubs don’t pay compensation do they? It’s a meat factory. If you don’t come then they will move onto the next one who will.

It depends on the player’s contract. Certainly some do.
