Because a 13 team league makes so much sense.

If Leeds were to get relegated would the RFU still fund their academy in National 1.

I would have thought Leeds/Yorkshire should move to West Park Bramhope. Excellent facilities   My lad trained there with Leeds Academy. They can certainly accommodate 2000 supporters. and a 3 g training pitch. Stop paying top rental fees to Headingley for a game that is virtually empty. .
I don't think they are not going to be a viable Champioship side with the sponsorship they have got.

You can have as much quality sponsorship as you like, without a Championship squad you are toast.

You can't play professional sport at West Park Bramhope. The deal that YC have gotat Headingley is as good a deal as they could get, given the circumstances. YC get a stadium, training, and back office facilities for 100K, and Headingley does not have to be mothballed by it's owners over the winter. Wherever YC goes next I hope the owners look over the brow of the hill and try to establish themselves as a club somewhere with their own facilities. It may take several years for the to re-establish themselves as a senior club, but it will be more productive in the long run than waiting for Father Christmas or haemorrhaging precious funds into the Headingley owners coffers.

CC hate to labour a point but YC is not a great club, and LW are on the rise again ( great club) and getting bigger crowds than some Championship sides!!

And interestingly, Steven Shingler will be part-time coaching them while playing at Ealing this year.

My sympathies in all of this are with Richmond who have run a proper club yo a budget and been relegated.

Taxpayer funded Hartpury were able to exploit the rules to play a Premiership select side in the second half of the season. Leeds Yorkshire went on an unsustainable spending spree, secured their Championship status but now, oh dear, we can't afford to pay our creditors; who have been left having to accept something rather than nothing.

The RFU don't seem to mind what this all says about the Championship, but do they really give a flying #@-/ anyway?

If leeds were to be relegated at the end of the season - they lose so much RFU funding they will fold.
There only hope of urvival is for the RFU to continue to fund the club at £750k per year. - as Championship club with academy.

If the RFU called them insolvent when there was the first threat of a player strike over non payment, they wold have gone out of business - and politically that is not acceptable.

Rugby needs a 'big' club in Yorkshire and for some reason Doncaster does not count.

I obviously would not do on the RFU council as I do not drink enough gin.

Camquin,

The scandal at Leeds shows how unfit the RFU is to run rugby. There is no proper:

- leadership
- governance
- understanding
- care

for the game below the elite level . The RFU should recognise the schism in the game and do something. If a smaller club than Leeds had operated like Leeds have the RFU would have consigned them to oblivion without a second thought.

Having read the latest in The Rugby Paper of a proposed joint Yorkshire Carnegie / Sale type merger, I feel even sicker for Richmond, just going for a lie down in a darkened room.

So Sale Sharks are going to work with YC I presume by loaning them players, so what is going to happen to their relationship to Sale FC who relied heavily on D/R players from Sale Sharks last year or do Sale Sharks have such a big player base they can keep both clubs happy.

I know the limits on loan players were very lax - but I think they still required there to be some players associated with the club borrowing players.

Sharks list 27 first team members on their web site - so my guess is they would only have academy players to loan out.

Why Leeds needs to joint work or whatever phrase you want to use with Sale is beyond me when they have their own academy to use.

It is, of course, a case of if the TRP are telling the truth. Seeing as the same publication had put Leeds out of business a few weeks ago, it’s hard to say.

The Academy are kids, and there aren't that many of them.
Many of the older ones have moved on.
Not dure how Lancashire / Cheshire Carnegie will sit with the Leeds faithful.

The "faithful" aren't exactly in a strong position to do/say much are they?

Survival is still important.

At the NCA AGM the report from the RFU Council certainly suggested a13 team Premiership from 20/21, no relegation from Level 2 and a 14 team Championship sharing the same money. The RFU are concerned, Nigel Melville is pressing PRL hard to scrap the A League or equivalent and to introduce block loans of more EAPs to Levels 2-4. He wants young players playing regularly and a meaningful competition at Level 2. It is suggested there would be a play-off between the bottom team in the Premiership and the top team in the Championship. All still on paper, to be discussed but the ideas seem further advanced.

What are the RFU concerned about Halliford? Their gin budget?
