As far as I can tell all payments for the rugby were made until the end of June.

There are no winners to this whole sorry process - my only concern is that it could be repeated elsewhere due to the funding at this level not being sufficient for what the RFU or whoever want from it.

I have been saying the funding has not been enough for ten years and more people have been laughing. The RFU need to wake up,£600.000.00 for a full time professional outfit in 2019 at level two in their sport is totally utterly ridiculous . It is now coming home to roost Leeds wont be the last to fail .

Which brings us inevitably back to "what is the point of the Championship." All I know, and can say for sure is that I love going to watch a high standard of rugby at the local club.

The RFU money is nice, but what is needed to make things sustainable is crowds, and to get crowds there needs to be better visibility for the Championship. That visibility can only come from playing against top tier clubs.

Therefore, if the Championship is meant to be a feeder for the Prem, without competition with any top flight, then I feel like it is ultimately doomed to fail.

If the point is to put out a good, high quality product that draws eyes in its own right (and competes with the Prem to whatever small degree), then £600k is never going to be enough.

I'm not saying that any team shouldn't be allowed to aim for promotion from the Championship, but I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with the whole point of it as currently constituted.

And where pray tell will the RFU get any extra money from when they have blown it all improving hospitality facilities at HQ?

I agree in the most part, but would add decent facilities could attract bigger crowds

Not any more, though it may as well be.
That's easy for you to say.

How long will it take the RFU (and many people on here) to realise that Rugby Union is a minority sport in England and simply isn't anywhere near popular enough to support a full time professional game at level 2. At level 1 it's only sustainable in its present form due to the support of very rich owners who chuck money at it like it doesn't matter to them....which it doesn't. What that's done is grossly inflate players wages, which works it's way done the pyramid and.....voila - here we are.  The Championship should be part time, and at all semi pro levels (2,3 and 4) the amount of money paid to players should be drastically reduced.
It's not going to happen though. We're on a race to the bottom that will end in disaster for lots of clubs at these levels.

I am interested to know how many YC fans would still turn up to watch a Sale development team masquerading as YC?

Also why would Sale want to play any Prem games at Headingly . . do they really think they will attract and retainer supporters from Leeds?

But hey ho the farce continues and the RFU allows its top league to fall into disrepute.

Interesting points.

Could this be the first stage of a franchise style move across the Pennines, giving Sale Sharks an easy route to a tie up with a Championship side?

Has Diamond decided this is more achievable than getting Sale FC into the Championship?

If this is the case where does that leave Sale FC?

In today’s Rugby Paper it states that Carnegie’s balance is still in the future. The RFU need to be satisfied that they have sufficient financial clout to fund next seasons activities with no players or coaches listed this could make things difficult. There is an RFU working group looking at the business plan and will report back to the board by the middle of next week

The Rumour Propagator would be a better title, given the rag's record.

TRP has had some really great feature spreads so far this summer on Championship clubs. CPs and Newcastle both had two pages this week. I wont speak too badly of virtually the only media that pays attention to the championship

Hmm. It was actually quotes from Nigel Melville in relation to the situation at YC...so unless they have completely invented a conversation then the comment from mickyboy is accurate.

I think Jon Newcombe is one of the most informed rugby journalists around.
The RP should be required reading for us all.
