On another note, what are the thoughts on Camberley’s chance of a top 2 finish?
Got 2 of the top 3 at home in the run in to the end of the season. |

Camberley have impressed but regret no cigar this season, current top 3 to remain in place but order of merit will confound for a couple more games, I said it would be February to see the final shape of the league, may need another month......

Inside man perhaps you could give us your thoughts on losing Josua Lewanituva to Cambridge. A 3 level hike mid- season suggests a very good player would be sorely missed.

This league has got the most exciting run in from most leagues now. The grounds are firming up which makes for running rugby and the loss of a 4 try bonus point will be the difference at the end so are teams going to go for it ? Every week now has crucial match ups with any of the mid table sides capable of toppling one of the top four. From a neutral point of view, very interesting when looking for a game to watch that has something riding on it. The play off game will be interesting as to which league is the stronger with the runaway leaders in the opposite league.

Too right, it will be down to how these teams in the top 4 manage their ambitions to progress by dint of squad size, mental strength, and key player availability. As you state the quality of the games will be mouth-watering and all remains to play for deep into the tail end of the season. I would say that who-ever wins the league or indeed is runner up will display the necessary fire-power, will-power and guile to prevail in Nat 3 (as it was) and I applaud all four teams involved (sorry WP) for bringing us all to the party! Just need to ensure a home draw for the play-off place, it will be key in an all or nothing contest!
Best, Vuarnet

What gets you a home draw for the play off ?

More league points than the respective team you are matched against. So if the team in our league who finish 2nd end up on 91 points and the team in the north end up on 90 our league get the home draw for the play-off. Not exactly sure what happens if points are equal, but feel that would be determined in the same way as it would be if 2 teams in the same league finished on equal points. Does that make sense ?
Currently Colchester in 2md place have 86 points against Medway's 80 so looks like our league is much more competitive and an away game beckons if all else stays the same. Edited by WESTCOMBE RANGER - 15 Feb 2019 at 08:33 |

It looks increasingly like The North will have the home tie. Colchester have only lost 1 game thus far, and that was against the runaway leaders. Although chances are they will lose again to them this weekend. I reckon whoever finishes 2nd in The South will need to go unbeaten for the rest of the season to have a chance of a home playoff.

Here we go with another week of predictions. Brighton v Combe Brighton far to strong for the Combe boys. BP for Brighton. Camberley v Hove Camberley getting a valuable 5 points in the promotion race Chi v Thurrock After last week's result, who can back against Chi. BP for both teams. Darts v Cornish Tough to call but Darts need the win so I back them to get it. Havant v Chobham Comfortable 40+ point home win Medway v Cobham Home team to take it but won't be all one way traffic. Totts v Oaks Never an easy place to go. Close game but Oaks to keep up the pressure at the top. |

Brighton v WP. BP win. WP's lack of discipline to cost them a chance of competing yet again Camberley v Hove. BP win. Interesting to see if Cam can better 7Oaks 45-7 v Hove from just after xmas. Chi v Thurrock. Another home BP win Darts v Cornish. Cornish should just have enough in a tight affair. Sounds like they've stepped up their performances in the last couple of weeks. Havant v Chobham. Another home BP win. Havant starting to get back to their best? Medway v Cobham. Home win, could drop the BP though and could be a tight game if Cobham play to the level they are capable of Totts v 7Oaks. BP win for 7Oaks and a healthy points difference improvement for them too. The Soton mud wont phase the Oaks players!

Brighton v WP - Brighton to get back to winning ways with a BP win. WP to lose by 10-15 points
Camberley v Hove - Camberley to win by 20 points+ and getting a BP Chi v Thurrock - Close Game. This could go either way, but I reckon and hope Thurrock will nick it. Both to get a BP. Darts v Cornish - Darts to return to winning ways. They through away a lead at Cornish's place, but will not make that mistake again. Much needed win. Havant v Chobahm - Havant home win Medway v Cobham - Another Home win. Totts v 7oaks - 7oaks to win. Totts to just miss out on a losing BP.

It certainly looks very tight at the top for those top 2 spots!
Looking back at Camberley's results last season, they comfortably beat Rochford 100 at home (in the RFU Cup?) and given Rochfords dominance of the Northern league I would suspect the Southern runner up to win against their Northern counterpart, even away from home. There are a lot of good players across the teams in L1S this year and some good rugby being played in every game I've seen! L1S looks set to be a good league again next year, regardless of who jumps up a league, with WP and Havant posing a threat of coming back strong and adding to the mix at the top next season (plus any random "bolters" like 7Oaks this year!)

Difficult to judge London North 1 based on Rochford's performance last year. Since then Rochford have invested heavily in players, and took/gained a number of players from Southend who had been relegated from the league above. That is why they have dominated the league, not necessarily because the rest if the league is poor. As Medway found out last season, there are still some pretty decent teams in London North 1.

All good points B Rex, it is a long held mis-conception that the London South is the tougher of the two leagues but there will be little to choose in terms of skill set when the runners up "cup" is played in April. If as predicted it is Colchester, they have recently graced level 5 and for whomever wins the run off for second place they will all face a long trip to play. Sure the referee and linesman will be miked and impartial but on the day that home advantage will count and can bouy the team to maximise their exertion. What-ever its bound to be a fine contest, shame it is likely to be beyond my usual travelling distance, otherwise I would attend as a neutral.
All looks set for some fine contests tomorrow, I am keeping everything crossed that you are just wide of the mark on the Chi result, as always may the best team(s) win! Best Vuarnet

Not sure about the negative stuff about WP, a good game today played in good spirit. Supportes, players and coaching staff in the bar and had a good laugh before and after the game. Hope you have a good evening in Brighton and happy hunting in the final run in to the end of season....
