So most people predicted a Brighton win (I didn’t), an easy Medway victory and Combe to beat Oaks. The league couldn’t be tighter.

I watched the Oaks Combe game today. Combe were for large parts the better side. Their discipline is appalling. I think they were done 4 times for back chat. The DOR and forwards coach were arguing as were the forwards and backs. They have a seriously talented squad but based on their attitude and petulance, will get hammered at Brighton next week. Oaks were very average but stuck together and gave the fussy ref little to pick up on.

Happy with getting 6 from 7. But the one I got wrong is the one I’m most upset about. Darts may still currently be in the 3rd relegation spot, but they will turn it around. I’m very confident of that. |

Apologies Kentishman I missed your prediction, thanks for your faith in our form. Good insight into the back-chat from WP.,frustration sometimes need to be expressed less forcefully from the pitch and touchline, though I hate to say I am too ofton guilty myself. All in all though the results yesterday have made this league a thing of beauty and never would you have thought that all would go down to the final few games for so many teams.
Still predicting Mighty Oaks to Top Out the league and it will be between Brighton and Medway to fight out for play off place, fancy Brighton will shade it but it will be a shame to lose them from the league. For the drop Hove, Chobham and much as I hate myself for this as Totton have a horrible run in, but I hope that Darts drop simply for selfish reasons of distance, the things I say just to save the planet....... Weather looks good for running rugby again next week and its in everyones gift to keep this league as the most exciting and unpredicatble for at least another week! Best Vuarnet

Chichester v Brighton was an entertaining, feisty local derby. Ultimately (IMHO) discipline probably cost Brighton the win. The yellow card and 30 or 40 metres for backchat may prove costly at 16:45 on the 13th of April. On the subject of standout players - Tom Allen at full back for Camberley and Ben Pohill at flanker for Chichester (both players with circa 20 years in senior rugby).

Ben Polhill is an absolute LEGEND well over 20 years first team service and I believe he had a significant birthday recently. His physique, fitness and his level head make him a stand-out player and major asset for team and club. Mere words cannot adequately sum up his contribution to rugby.

It might the genie in the bottle to bring it up, but I have to say that the quality of refs in this league is poor. I am just a rugby fan in general and go to watch a few teams, mostly Worthing (Nat 2 refs are so much better). The thing that truly amazes me is the linesmen that are provided by each club. Should not be happening in a good league like this.
Always admire the people who don the shirt and blow the whistle, but when people talk about bad discipline, it can be brought about by honest frustration due to the quality of officials. It is just a sad fact, you have to accept it and move on, but it is what I see when I do attend games.

Darts gave their oppo a head start again and came back into it later in the game. Should make for an interesting last game of the season with Totts blowing head starts, and Darts clawing back deficits. |

Refs ( especially young ones as at 7Oaks Saturday) not helped by coaching staff. The Combe coaching staff did not stop haranguing the ref the whole match especially after they were given a YC for a high tackle, so of course every tackle by Oaks became a high tackle after that. The constant barracking by the Combe staff, raising their arms like a squad of overgrown penguins, empowered their players to also voice their opinions ( especially their front row) which brought them minus yardage and penalties. Very distasteful.

For those who may be interested, the Chi win was no fluke and on the day they looked like the top of the league team. Indeed, the turning point was the YC. Not so much for the reduction in numbers, but it seemed to galvanise the home team. Brighton only scored 3 points in the second half and had few ideas about how to unlock the defence. Still all to play for them though. Should be a fascinating end to the season at both ends of the table. Only 3 mid tabl teams have no agenda for the rest of the season?

I fully agree. This morning I read the Combe match report. In patches it reflects fairly on the proceedings but throughout it smacks of arrogance which they have no right to display. I honestly think they will get battered by an angry Brighton side. The two Combe boys have gone quiet on this chat since we started telling a few home truths. Come on gents, tell us what you really think about things at your club. Are you honestly happy with the way the DOR and other coaches talk to the ref and the way the players are then following suit? As I see it, the players, who are very talented, just don't understand what they are being asked to do. Yes they will bully some of the weaker teams but will not get promoted unless something radical changes. Early prediction for Saturday: Brighton by 30+

Have not posted on this forum for a while, mainly as I don't get to many games anymore. But will say that this post made me chuckle, even though it was about my club WP: 'raising their arms like a squad of overgrown penguins' ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh and Kentishman, what is your beef about WP exactly? What did they do to you wrong in a previous life ?

I always like to think that people who use this board, especially at this level are Proper Rugby people who respect the values of the game (as Nigel puts it). Everyone should be respectful. It is just opinions at the end of the day and nothing will change as a result of what is written on here anyway !

No Beef. I live locally and have over the years enjoyed watching Combe. I have a number of friends in the club and, although I'm not a member, have been made to feel very welcome in the past. The current management team however seem intent on ruining what has always been a great club. I won't go into exactly what they are doing (as I promised in an earlier post that I wouldn't) but it does genuinely anger and sadden me!

Agree Dickon
Another one that could've gone either way..your lot started very well, but we seem to up a gear in the second half in a lot of games and managed to get the upper hand late on, as our report said "a great game for the nuetral" but nerve wracking for the diehards! You did win the drink race after though.. by a mile 😁 |
