Good club Macc, they just feel the cold a little more than most of us.

Move along, move along.

This is a strange phenomenon but I agree with you. If the said club official who as you say made these silly crass announcements as part of his pre-match speech, well IMO its fair game to show the buffoon up on here.
I thought all that nonsense between the two clubs had stopped.
Good luck with the rest of your run in

Sedge,
Thanks for your reasoned impartial view on the matter. Wouldn't want to tell tales!

If you didn't want to tell tales, why not post the full story in the first place rather than the playground style "I've got a secret" rhetoric?

RoD,
Each to their own. It was hardly "rhetoric".
I am sorry that my initial posting did not meet your exacting standards. I do promise to try harder next time.
Please accept my insincere apology.

Having read the postings on the subject of rank bad manners by a chairman of a club that has gained its great success through its mini junior development of south sea islanders should be expected. Let's hope when the cash runs out others will as sympathetic.

NWW,
Please do not attribute postings to me that have nothing to do with me.

I am not 'hiding' any more than anyone else on this Forum. I doubt that 'Senile Said Rick' is the name your mother gave you.

"A well known fantasist". Interesting. Any evidence?

I didn't expect my posting to create so much interest that Baggins feels the need to defend the honour of his club by suggesting to others that they should not believe me and in turn, the Presidents speech did not actually happened in the way I said. I think the term is 'grasping at straws'.

Baggins, no one has had a go at Ampthill as a club. I just reported the Ampthill President's disrespectful pre match speech. Defending it only suggests that you would concur with your President's ungracious greeting of the opposition committee and supporters.

Sadly, although the rest of the welcome in the clubhouse at Ampthill was examplary, the Chairman's speech I heard there some months ago gives credence to Sid's spoutings.

Sid you have a reputation on here for being one eyed, thin skinned and abrasive.
Do we have to add humourless to the mix?
Forgive me if I take your postings about a man I know to be a generous, friendly and welcoming man with a pinch of salt.
If this was anything more than an attempt at wit that didn't go down well with you to the point that you had to be placated by other club members I will eat my amber and burgundy stripy bobble hat.

I find the idea that he deliberately set out to be disrespectful to Hull Ionians implausible.
I find the idea that you took umbrage at something said in what is usually meant to be a witty speech of welcome and had to be calmed down all too believable.

I will leave it there.

I'm bored of the he said, she said, my Dad's bigger than yours accusation!

What was actually said?

I've been to too many of these lunches and heard too many inappropriate jokes, clubs called by the wrong name, incorrect history references, tactless comments.

I actually offended two committee guests from a club by referencing that when I played in the 80s their club was 11 leagues above us and how things have changed. I was pointing out we'd gone up 8 leagues and they thought I was taking the Michael that they'd dropped 4 leagues! I was asked by my Chairman to apologise to calm the situation, which I declined!!

I don't know the facts and so it's hard to tell from this conversation what the accusation is, I hope I haven't missed the facts in an earlier thread.
Rucks and mauls may bust my balls, but whips and chains excite me!!

Baggins,
Once again you fail to grasp the point and, knowing you are wrong, you now try to make light of the matter. If you find facts implausible, that is your issue.
Your Presidents 'attempt at wit' didn't go down well with anyone, including your own Club members and, according to Old Nick, it looks like this has happened before.

Point made, I too will now leave it there.

Are we attempting to take irony to a whole new level?

Sid's already explained what was said, following his initial allusions.  Now Baggins, who has already stated he wasn't in the room and doesn't know what was said, is defending the honour of a man Old Nick has confirmed has form in this area.

Are you all going mad, or is it just me?

All of which said, if you are prone to offence, I'd suggest attending any sort of rugby dinner where  a blazer is going to get up and deliver "hilarity" would seem a silly way to spend an afternoon.  Unless you take fun in being offended.

This has gone way too far now chaps.  Get over it.
