At level 5 I always wonder about squad depth and whether that is the difference between the top/mid table or mid table/bottom come end of the season.

Looks like Barnes have had a few changes (looks from here like a wedding is to blame), S&E pretty similar throughout the first 3 games but a few changes from last year (players brought in or players back that were injured at end of last year?), Guernsey had some changes for one reason or another, Southend pretty similar (not good signs!) & looks like Westcliff had a host of changes this week (for what reason?)

When there were changes Barnes lost, Westcliff lost & Guernsey won only narrowly at home.

Is squad depth the big determining factor in this league?

M  Chick as per our other string, there is no doubt whatsoever that a deep squad is a must in this league and level 4. We have at Barnes had a one squad philosophy to cover both the 1st and 2nd XV for 5 years plus, and by playing our 2nd XV in Zoo Shield 1 the players not on 1st XV duty play at a high level and are therefore more equipped to step up in the 1's whether it is because a senior 1st XV player decides to get married on the first Saturday of the season (as has been well reported! Big smile) or when players get injured (as of course they often do). Incidentally Whilst we didn't win against S & E on the first day of the season, the guys who stepped up acquitted themselves brilliantly and, but for a lapse of concentration in injury time, would have won the game. Three games in we still have a number of regular 1st team squad members still out from last season's injuries, and we have already picked up a troubling neck injury and a suspected broken ankle last week, add into this mix a couple of dodgy hammies and if we didn't have a deep enough squad we would be concerned.
