Wasn't gloating! The RFU website hadn't put the result up so I thought I'd let you all know.
Believe me we haven't got anything to gloat about.

This week’s results are:

Bridgnorth 13-18 Skunthorpe

Derby 35-14 Bourneville

Doncaster Phoenix 29-57 Bees

Lichfield 31-34 Sandbach

Longton 28-41 Peterborough Lions

Newbold on Avon 20-15 Old Halesonians

Newport (Salop) 12-17 Nuneaton

And then there were two!

The first month of the new season has ended. For most of that time the pace setters were the newcomers Newport (Salop) but their surprise defeat (well, to all but Shotgunner) has knocked them off the top spot to be replaced by Lions and Bees who are separated by a solitary bonus point but both having a 5-0 start. Below the top 3, 8 points separate 4th from 12th.

Looking at yesterday’s results only Friendly Prop had faith in his own team in predicting Scunny’s win on the road in what looked to be a tight encounter. From what I saw of Bridgnorth, their league position does not reflect the ability of the team. Derby bounced back well from the mauling they took at our place last week against a Bournville side struggling to maintain any consistency. Bees’ win at Donny has again seen us rid ourselves of that inability to get a bonus point that was evident last season, but Donny scored well against us and will trouble most sides in the league. Lichfield v Sandbach was one of those games that all of us ummmed and ahhed about. In the end a tight game went to the visitors. Longton looked to have given a good account of themselves against the league leaders. Do Lions have weaknesses that can see them slip up? Old Hales prop the league up without a win so far but this their 3rd close one. I would be surprised if this very changed side from previous years does not take a scalp or 2 during this season. Newport’s slip up after such a dominant start may mean the resurgence of a Nuns side that have had a very slow start. Only time will tell.

No full houses this week: Cobbler, Harveymac & Roary join me in scoring 6 this week. Leaders are the two “Mac’s” – Joe and Harvey – along with Welshwonder and Westwood.

No league fixtures this coming weekend but as I will be taking the time to play some golf in warmer climes, week 6 fixtures will follow soon.
