Yes, many congratulations to Bees - well deserved
Although disappointed I think the bonus point for Lions will ensure they finish second but now facing a tough trip to Hull in the play off game
Still mathematically possible for Newport to nick it but highly unlikely

Week 24 results were:

Longton 12-23 Lichfield

Newbold 23-22 Doncaster Phoenix

Newport 54-19 Derby

Nuneaton 15-33 Bridgnorth

Old Halesonians 24-30 Bournville

Peterborough Lions 20-22 Bees

Sandbach 11-14 Skunthorpe

You will forgive me for breaking with protocol and starting my weekly summary with the Lions v Bees game. This game was a great advert for this division, 2 teams slugging it out, toe to toe but with the spirit of the game firmly on show. Lions drew first blood with a well worked try in midfield. Bees hit back shortly after and that was that for the half. Bees scored early in the 2nd half when Lions were down a man but as soon as numbers were restored, Lions took command of the next 20 minutes, scoring 13 unanswered points. Bees then started to exert some control and were rewarded with a midfield penalty and, following a 12-man driving maul, a penalty try with 35 seconds on the clock. Then, trying to run the clock down, they conceded a penalty on their 10m line! There was a collective breath holding session as the Lions centre took the kick only to see it pushed agonisingly wide and that was that. If I was honest, Lions probably deserved to nick it over the 80 but at 20-12 down with less than 15 to go the lads showed great character to put themselves in a winning position. Ever gracious in defeat, Lions were great hosts after the game.

Elsewhere in the league, Lichfield won away to Longton opening a 5-point gap over them. Fellow strugglers, Newbold managed to secure a valuable win over Doncaster. Newport had a regulation win over Derby closing the gap on Lions to 5 points. Bridgnorth comfortably beat Nuns away, catapulting them up the table. Hales nearly managed to secure their second win of the season, bagging 2 bonus points in their defeat to Bournville. Finally, Sandbach and Scunny played out a tight affair, the visitors came out on top to keep alive their outside chance of securing the play-off place.

Predicting the results proved to be very challenging for us this week. A shout-out to Rala10 who was the only one to get both Newbold and Longton right. Unfortunately, he missed out on Bees and Scunny. The Lions / Bees game split opinion and influenced scoring especially at the top of the PL. This week’s top scorers with 6 points are Rala10, Friendly Prop and moi which means that I have consolidated my lead at the top.
