Good wins yesterday for Guernsey, Hertford & newly promoted Sidcup & Tring.
Barnes back to winning ways but some difference of opinion between Surreyben & Robb as to how good Barnes were. Very close game between Guildford & Dorking.
After just two games, it looks like it could be a long season for Southend & Towcestrians.

Some very high scores this week, well done to Dantheman & Chiefwiggum1984, top scoring with excellent scores of 26.
Predictions welcome for next weeks matches below the league table.

Dorking 5 v 0 Shelford. Dorking back line to shine against the slow starting Shelford.
Hertford 5 v 1 Barnes. Hertford looking like early favourites, Barnes will run them close despite four weddings and a funeral.
Sidcup 1 v 4 Westcliff. Westcliff to bring the new boys back down to terra firma
Southend 1 v 4 Guildford. Looking desperate for Southend, Guildford to take advantage in a low scoring match.
Sutton & Epsom 5 v 1 Tring. Should be a high scoring match, Sutton capable of scoring lots of tries, but equally capable of conceding them, home advantage will see them home.
Towcestrians 0 v 5 Westcombe Park. Park the bookies favourites before the season have had a poor start, but will notch up their first victory at Towcestrians.
Tunbridge Wells 1 v 5 Guernsey. Another high scoring match, but if Barnes out muscled the Wells pack then they're in for a torrid time against Guernsey.

Dorking -v- Shelford      5-0      Dorking to take this easier than i would have expected before the season started
Hertford -v- Barnes        5-2     Barnes always score lots of BPs, but Hertford to match them and more
Sidcup -v- Westcliff        1-5     Reality to strike in Sidcup. Are Westcliff the real deal this season?
Southend -v- Guildford    0-5    Results so far dictate this pick.
Sutton & Epsom -v- Tring   2-5   Could go the other way too, but fancy Tring to keep the roll going.
Towcestrians -v- Westcombe Park  0-5  Another day Ts wish they hadn't come south.
Tunbridge Wells -v- Guernsey    1-4   If Guernsey are to mount a serious challenge this year, this is the sort of game they should win comfortably.

Dorking 5-0 Shelford: Shelford not yet at the races and this pitch will be too big for them!
Hertford 5-0 Barnes : No wedding but Barnes won't have enough firepower up front!
Sidcup 0-5 Westcliff : Westcliff on the up, Sidcup got a bashing up front last week, but Combe left the door open. Westcliff will win too much ball and will make sure that door is shut!
Southend 0-5 Guildford: Southend in big trouble
Sutton 2-5 Tring : Tring to win in a high scorer
Towcestrians 0-5 WP : As said this is the hardest of the reg leagues, Tow's problems this week will be winning no ball and if Combe make better use of it they will be over the hill by half time and not leave the gate open!
TW 1-5  Guernsey: Into Gatwick, collect the points and out, Jordan and the boys starting to look good!

Dorking 5 - 0 Shalford - based on form to date
Hertford 2 - 5 Barnes - games between Hertford and Barnes have always been high scoring and close and this is unlikely to be any different but with all wedding guests back in the ranks Barnes will edge this
Sidcup 1 - 5 Westcliff - going to stick my neck out here but I fancy Westcliff this year
Southend 0 - 5 Guildford - Southend look to have had the stuffing knocked out of them before the season has even started, Guildford at a canter!
Sutton & Epsom 0 - 5 Tring - reality check for S & E this week with Tring hitting their straps
Towcestrians 0 - 5 Westcombe Park - first win of the season for WP...and a big one I am afraid...
Tunbridge Wells 2 - 4 Guernsey - Based on last week's game, TW have capable backs but need to get the ball, Guernsey have a well drilled pack that scrums well, this will be a thrilling close encounter...

Still early season and the guess work continues

Dorking 4-v-1 Shelford  Dorking at home
Hertford 4-v-1 Barnes    Tight game but rumour has it Barnes ae attending a wedding reception not far from Hertford
Sidcup 2-v - 5 Westcliff Westcliff to continue the good form
Southend 0-v-5 Guildford Southend need to ring Barking for a game
Sutton & Epsom 2-v-5 Tring High Scoring game but could depend on fitness of S&E Skipper
Towcestrians 0-v-5Westcombe Park   no contest
Tunbridge Wells/RTW 4-v-1 Guernsey Just think TW/RTW will find their feet this weekend

Alacadoo, I've only just seen the Barking score. You have to see things like this and wonder about money in amateur rugby...although Barking were semi professional when the money was there and the drop started to happen. How easy is it to pull that plug when the money tap is running?

I hope Southend don't follow Barking but the result at the weekend looks ominous unless Westcliff have really improved that much. We don't know yet but I'm not sure they can have done as I don't believe they pay any players and change the squad much each season. So I fear Southend becoming that much weaker may explain it.

Money at this amateur level is a risky business. Which clubs are willing to risk everything for a shot at tier 3 or 4?

Just chased down the Barking score myself the level transfer meant it passed me by at the weekend. It must be like a never ending nightmare there. Maybe I am wrong I kind of hope that I am but the people that care deeply about the club must be in despair.

There was a debate when East Grinstead took the route they did, direct to the foot of the pyramid over whether or not they should do so or be allowed to do so. Taking the pain all at once regrouping and building from the bottom up must surely be better than a long, lingering, relentless decline mustn't it?

Westcliff have improved over the last 18 months but they have not become world beaters which suggests Southend have lots to do. I wish them well.

Amazed to see the Barking fall from grace, I remember reffing them when they were in the Nationals. Funny but despite all the forewarning Bob Crooks was a really nice guy.

To th point of whether to swallow pride and start at the bottom again or suffer season after season of collapse, I think it depends on how bad things are. Haywards Heath and East Grinstead took the gamble of restarting, whereas the likes of Manchester, Camberley and Barking went through the drop season after season- with the hope of putting the brake on at some point. I know Camberley have now stopped the rot.

The point is one solution does not fix all.
Rucks and mauls may bust my balls, but whips and chains excite me!!

I think it is incredibly sad to see any club slip down the leagues like this,I am sure noone running the club could foresee this when they were riding high.We all put our heart and soul into the club's we love , and sometimes money too, and it is where clubs and their committees are intoxicated by the smell of someone's wad of crisp banknotes and the lure of players from a higher league gracing your tram (as long as you pay them of course). The promises of a loftier league, often driven by the arrival of an often well-intentioned new benefactor, too often result in a painful, club-changing,public fall from grace. I won't name those club's, we all know them, Barking is merely the latest in a long line, which, sure as eggs is eggs, will grow. I know of one senior club where, after a long run of considerable support, the gravy train will come to an end as the money tap is likely to be completely turned off at the end of this season, and equally I know of another club where a new benefactor is gearing up to invest a large amount over the nex few years,we never learn do we? So what's the point of my words? The point is that we need to ensure that we are running rugby clubs which are sustained by normal activities of playing rugby: match fees, bar takings and well run social events so the club can take responsibility of its today and its tomorrow, and not rely on some stranger bearing gifts. Good debate to have this one.I will finish by saying that in Barking's case they had a good benefactor but in the long run even that hasn't helped their cause. The moral of this tale? Rugby clubs aren't money making opportunities for entrepreneurs to make a quick, or even a long buck from, only put money in if you expect to take nothing out other than good beer, good banter and the odd vote of thanks! Apologies for the length !
