There was a debate when East Grinstead took the route they did, direct to the foot of the pyramid over whether or not they should do so or be allowed to do so. Taking the pain all at once regrouping and building from the bottom up must surely be better than a long, lingering, relentless decline mustn't it?

Westcliff have improved over the last 18 months but they have not become world beaters which suggests Southend have lots to do. I wish them well.

The thing with East Grinstead is that technically they withdrew their 1st team from the leagues however as the 2nd team were already in the Sussex leagues, they just made the 2nd team the 1st team (same as what London Welsh and Haywards Heath have done). It's not like St Jacques (Guernsey's 2nd team for all intents) who started this season as a new club in Sussex 2.

All clubs generally face the yearly issue around player recruitment and retention. As their youth section whilst a fantastic part of the game rarely produces sufficient talent who have the desire to remain in the game following higher education exploits, opportunity to return to the local club and something I have experienced in recent times is the size and power of the adult players which becomes daunting for the younger players.
Rugby clubs have always enjoyed the good and bad years but we all should remember the game does not revolve or solely exist around our respective 1st XV's and those clubs that continue to chase the "dream"of level 2, 3 and 4 rugby should be careful to mind the many that pull on the shirt at the social side of the game.

Can someone remind me of the visa requirements? If I'm right overseas players (non Kolpak) can't play in National Leagues as it is considered semi professional. Overseas players can't take payment and therefore can't play in semi professional league. If they take payment in regional leagues which are supposed to be amateur then they are breaching visa conditions. Am I right?

Overseas players on an Ancestry visa can play at any level and can be paid.

T5 youth mobility visa's, the most common for NZ & Aus travellers, can play at level 5 and below and cannot be paid to play or receive any material benefit. Reasonable expenses (travel to games etc) can be claimed.

Overseas players that get paid to play sport are in breach of their Visa restrictions, clubs that pay overseas players are in breach of RFU rules.

Unfortunately it doesn't stop it happening, and despite the high profile cases like Medway and Old Dunstonians,  facebook is full of level 5 (and below) clubs advertising for players via a non RFU registered agency offering flights, accommodation, match fee's etc etc.

DORKING 5-0 Shelford - Dorking starting to get act together. Shelford won at D's last seasonDisapprove
Hertford 1-4 BARNES - No weddings for visitors on song could mean a funeral for Herts.
Sidcup 1-4 WESTCLIFF - Re-vitalised Cliff to halt home sides momentum. Should be a cracker.
SOUTHEND SAXONS 4-1 Guildford - Saxons to halt the slide. Forget last week.
SUTTON & EPSOM 5-1 Tring - Another cracker likely. Sutts good at home unless Tring are special.?
Towcestrians 1-5 WESTCOMBE PARK - Both are better than results shown. Could be close. Park??
TUNBRIDGE WELLS 4-1 Guernsey - Wells could be the surprise package and topple leaders.

Teams starting to settle in to this league and promise shown by Tring, TWells, and Sidcup. Going to be a tight season, and probably the tightest for years. Plenty of surprises to come. Good luck to all.

I know that lightning can call in school games from personal experience but surely there is some RFU regulation that covers the issue of thunderstorms.
