I watched the Tring/Hertford game on Saturday. Hertford were 14-5 up, when their second row was sent off, for punching. A Tring player was also yellow carded for his part in the incident. Not sure why both players didnt get the same punishment. Too make matters worse the Hertford player was then apparently punched by a spectator, from what I have heard this has been included in the referees report. Hertford played the whole of the second half with 14 men and with only a couple of minutes to go were 25-22 down and turned down two kicks for goal on the 25 bang in front of the posts trying to go for the win. A dropped pass, yards from the Tring try line resulted in a breakaway try for Tring and a final score to them of 32-22.

Unfortunately due to this going to the RFU the only comment I can make is that I heard the Hertfordshire head coach tell the Referee what allegedly happened in the crowd.  In my opinion if somebody punches you in the face 4 times you have the right to retaliate if that means you get a yellow card then so be it but to get a red for defending yourself seems a bit harsh.  But that is what I saw from 50m away the Referee only reacted after being told what happend by the Hertford coach.......

Wow I can’t believe things like this happen. The Tring support is very “vociferous” though. Not well liked by me. The Guildford support much the same. Thankfully most clubs have support that get behind their teams in the right way and are very happy to have a well mannered chat during and after the game.

Sorry to disagree but retaliation cannot ever be condoned and as we all know often the last punch is the one seen so also not a wise thing to do. Watched a good game between 2 tough sides both trying "to play", crowd was very partisan as expected but all around me were sporting, however on club side the gap between pitch and "barrier" is far too close
Been around too long to know better

Sorry but a referee does not make a decision on “hearsay” from a coach. Maybe Chinese Whispers told you that.
Rucks and mauls may bust my balls, but whips and chains excite me!!

Sorry Cannon, but this happend at 1/2 time & I was stood right behind the Hertford coach when he spoke to the referee it was only then that the Referee spoke to the person that the Hertford coach pointed out.  He also stated that they had the incident on camera & Hertford were going to report this to the RFU.  So one way or the other we are going to find out what happend as Hertford either have it on camera or they dont?

I have reread the thread and I assume that it is only the coaches comments going in his report as opposed to the coach influencing the YC/ RC decision.
