good workout for all three teams really...I,ll start with the first 40 mins fc v jets..2-1 in trys to jets..jets had maybe 4 or 5 first teamers in there and the rest mixture of squad players and youngsters.jets had good structure in their game as youd expect...fc defended well though...in attack fc were lacking a bit, but with a couple of changes in positions might sort that out. second 40 fc v hoppers....1-0 to hoppers...both sides very committed...fcs attack improved a bit and should have scored a couple of times. third 40 1-0 to jets against hoppers ...good committed rugby.all in all sale fc can take comfort in running two quality sides close whilst not playing to their full potential.

Sheffield tigers play huddersfield today. Sheff now coached by ex hudds 2nd rowThiu Barnard so field can expect a few feathers ruffled in the forwards. Cleckeaton then come over next week, should be a good game if the scrummaging session earlier in pre season was anything to go by.

Think you'll find Acro that Hoppers beat FC 2-0 on tries but it's incidental. All teams turned down penalties so scoreboard pressure was not the main tactic. Hoppers went well in both games. jets were strong when you consider likes of Fearn, Neild, Hughes, vilhami, Fowles, McKenzie, Forsyth, Ingall & Haley played. Jets had more territory and possession against FC but Hoppers shaded both against the Jets. I'm sure all three teams got a lot out of a competitive evening.

billog_zam  Have Billingham learnt much from this fixture or was it purely to open the lungs for your players? I would have thought Middlesboro would have learnt far more playing a team 2 leagues above themselves.

Mainly about over commiting. Boro have a strong pack and well drilled. However we put to many in the breakdown and leaving opportunities where we could have scored or defended better. Pre-season gitters

I stand corrected hopper...my apoligies...2-0 to hoppers...thanks for the second report on the game ,but i do feel it should have been posted on N2s page as you would have frightened the life out of your league opisition with it. Good luck for the season.Handshake

A friend took my youngest with his son to watch Loo play park... He came back with a more than favourable report with Loo running out 7 or 8 tries to 1 winners following a 4 quarter game with plenty of changes. Apparently the backline looked rapid... I'll wait for someone who went to tell us all more...

It was a good run out for Loo, disrupted by changes as ever in these games, but the tries were spread throughout. It was seven (I think) tries to one. Our ex-league addition Matt Crow looks promising, took the ball forward at pace into contact a few times. I think that we had a new second row at one point and later "returning junior" Bradley Someone came on to prop for us. JO'B and Freeman were absent (and Minty obviously)and Sean Gibney was rested but other than that we started with relatively settled last season line up. Perversely the start of the game with our 'strongest' line up on was when Park had he best of it! Other than that it was sunny and I got Huckleberryly Pear whilst not watching rugby, happy days are here again...

Sorry for the late reply Topref..

Otley brought down a very strong squad of 35, they had a good off loading game and pace to burn. The score ended up 37-17 in favour of Otley. The lymm squad was hampered by last minute injuries and Creamfields but performed admirely against there stronger opponents.
Its a pity Lymm couldn't field the likes of Bray, Higginson, Ashall, Widdrington, Williams, Auden, Reay, Rowley and Williamson but the young lads who stood in deffo learnt whats its like to play at the next level. Hopefully a number of the above will be back for the Macc game next week.
Otley need to be praised for lending Lymm a couple of props so the game didnt go to uncontested scrums.
Crouchly lane the lane of pain..

An interesting game is coming up on Saturday as Sale FC face Stockport who finished 1 place higher in the league last season and were subsequently promoted.

But will either team risk their first choice first team?

I imagine Stockport will be pretty close to full strength minus a couple of injuries, it's the last opportunity to prepare before the league starts so it's being taken seriously.

Rest assured Sale will be putting a full squad out. Got to defend last years success, but also fine tune for the league
